Caller ID

It's just the number, and I have no idea if they will ever change it. Its not really an issue. But, if you need the name then it could be a little annoying. What I would do is set the people you know in your phones phonebook so that when they call you, you can see their name....All i can think of....

CID, Calling-ID, is only phone number. There's a telecom feature called CNAM, Calling Name Display, but not all carriers support it so it's not widely used. The same thing applies to the cellular industry, only CID is available as CNAM is not widely supported by the carriers.
Best way is to program your phone memory/directory with all the names of your favorite people and the handset/phone will display the names of stored numbers for incoming calls.

LikeMagic,
I never new there was two kinds of CID but I have never had a phone that showed the name unless it was programmed into the phone and that includes my Cell Phone.
Thanks for the verification, that was something I never really got concerned about but was always going to ask the phone carrier and never seemed to get around to it or would always forget when I was on the phone with them.

digitalnomad,
I just recently got Grand central but the system does so much neat stuff that I haven't had time to sit down and figure out all that it does.
PS - What is the "Catch" with them? How can they do all that they do for free, makes me suspicious.

GC owns the phone number blocks that they give out to us for free. In turn, GC collects "connecting fee" for accepting incoming calls to their GC numbers from other landline & wireless carriers. That's how they collect revenue, not from GC users directly, but from other carriers who in turn charge us for using their service
I know I'm still paying for my Qwest landline service & AT&T Mobility for my wireless service

@ HolmanGT-
Partly because they are owned by Google. I think you will see some adverts popping up on GrandCentral when it comes out of beta. Right now the "Free" is a promo gimmick and probably a perk for beta testers.
In fact, GC has more or less announced there will be different levels of service, and premium paid services in the future.
I have a series of ongoing posts on GrandCentral features at my Digital Nomads blog. Might save you some time to watch that.
