Small phone for use with MagicJack?

Post by bubbahotep »

Can anyone recommend a small phone (like the size of a cellphone) to use with MagicJack? I'd like to be able to throw the MagicJack USB unit and a small phone in my bag and have it with me on the go.

Any ideas?

Well you could just keep a bluetooth usb dongle and a bluetooth headset in your pocket with out....Then you can hook up wirelessly...

EDIT; BTW that miniphone doesn't work to great....It was free after rebate before compusa shut down in PA and I have it. I would not really reccomend using it....It could just be my product...

I have been looking for one of these old flip phones for weeks. Do you have a brand and model number?

Nah, I don't have any ads running. Thanks for the info though.

I did find it, but it has lousy reviews. What can you expect for 6 bucks USD.

Walgreens no longer has it listed as an item in stock.

Innovage Deluxe Handheld Mini Flip Phone
They wholesale at $2.99 each and sell at Walgreens and Rite Aid for $5.99 each or 2 for $10.00.

Yes, it DEFINITELY has lousy reviews (esp. the ones on Overstock) -- and it is too bad, it is EXACTLY the form-factor that the OP described.

Best bet is to just get the headsets at Walmart (no joke) for $14.95 -- some of them are phenomenal IMHO (Sanyo brand).

Yeah, I wanted this to carry with a lappy. Headset is OK, but a phone would maybe be more convenient. I don't know...if I can find one of these Innovage flip phones I am going to get one just for the heck of it.

So if I were to buy a bluetooth headset I could use it with my magicjack? Is this difficult to set up, or are there any things you have to make sure of before you buy it?

Finally got a chance to check out the Innovage phone.
That's pretty nice.
Don't travel for work as much as I used to but I think I might try and pick one of these up just in case.

Yeah, the Walgreens website no longer lists the Innovage Flip Phone as an available item.

I called the store to save a trip and they said they did not carry these anymore. I happened to stop by the store on another trip and found that they had 4 or 5 for sale. Surprise, surpirse...more good customer service.

I would not vouch for buying this online, but at the same time, how can you go wrong for 6 bucks. Although the cost of shipping may be a deal killer.

This is a cheap solution, and it is more like a toy. I would pay $20+ for a good corded flip phone, but they are impossible to find.

Just a word of caution...having recently purchased one of these, I would say that is a tad expensive for this device. Save up and get a bluetooth headset.

I was thinking more top drawer like a Jawbone...now that would be cool with a rugged notebook for when you travel.

This is more than double what it costs at Walgreens (if you can find it) and at least 10x more than what it is worth.

That's sad ... check Overstock.com to see if they have any more.

don't buy a mini phone

Don't buy a mini phone!

It worked when I first hooked it up to my phone system and got a call from a friend.
It rang veryyyyyyyy loud and was clear but then when I hung up and tried to make
a call I didn't get any dial tone at all. geeeeeeez

Still doesn't work and am taking it back to Walgreens. I'll either buy a bluetooth or
a headset to make calls.

I found a few wired phones on ebay that are tiny. I just got them today and am playing with them. One cost me about $8.00 shipped, the other was a lot of 6 phones for $18.00 shipped, I don't know what I'm gonna do with 6 of them, but that was the deal. They are both kind of unusual phones brought to you by our friends in China. One is just a keypad that has a 3/32" stereo jack for a headset and has a hardwired cord about 4' long that terminates into a RJ11. This is the same jack on most cell phones and cordless phones. The whole thing is about 2"X2.5"X.75". It is called a Voice 2000S distributed by Voice 2000S Inc.

Phone 2 looks like a cell phone, it swings open exposing a dial pad. It has a 1/8" stereo jack for a headset. The built in ear speaker is at the top when the phone is swung open and the mic is at the bottom below the dial pad. This phone when closed is about 3.75"H X 2"W X .75"D. So far they both seem to work well. They will both fit well into a laptop case. They both come with a wired earpiece with built in mic.

Getting as ring trip

Post by MagicJackInSac »

I am getting a ring trip using the Innovage corded flip phone when directly hooked up to the magicjack, and ideas how to prevent this? I can make calls out with no problem.

I've had no problems using these with my MJ. They are 2.4gHz - digital, and can be bought super-cheap... almost free. Google them - they're all over the place. I bought a pair (one base unit and one remote charge unit) for $7 at my local Sears - then when back and bought another pair the next day! They are also frequently sold on eBay.
You can register up to 4 phones on one base unit. They are typically sold with either 2 phones or 4 phones in a package, but they can be digitally registered with other phones/base units that adhere to the GAP standard.
Some reviews have complained about dropped calls, but I haven't had that problem. Caller ID works fine with them. Sound quality is decent...

I would check your local $1 stores. Every time I have been in they have fake cellphone corded phones and headset corded ones. They probably are not great but they are $1. And the usb and firewire cables I buy there work flawlessly.

If you search "magicjack" on ebay, people are selling several phones that work with the magicjack. Just look for the one that looks like a cell phone (a flip phone), with a cord that plugs into a phone jack. It also comes with a headset and its only like 15 bucks.

EDIT - Thats the one you're all talking about. Sorry, I didn't read all the replies.
