magicjack "magictroubles"
Hello,
2 troubles I found with mj 1 you need absolutely win-xp with service pack 2 otherwice it will not install,
2 when mj installs it will kill media controls (I cannot play any music, no audio video ok) as soon I unplug mj sound is ok.
When I use the mj I have audio on the headphone but I'm not able to play music .
It would be nice to open a post and list all the bugs so the programmers would fix the bugs.
I have installed 2 win-xp on 2 partitions ,on 1 I only have magicjack installed and internet browser only ,on the other I have all my others programs ,I can access them with win xp double boot.

The audio thing is a bug in Windows technically and not magicjack. Windows doesn't handle the install of a USB audio device properly, it assumes the new device should be the default. Just go to control panel, sound device and make adjustments on the voice and audio/sound tabs. Search the forums here for more detailed instructions if you need them.
XP and higher is a stated minimum for the product right on the packaging. So no surprise there.

I have many devices that work on usb port and all work, none are stealing sound devices as majicjack does ,re: win-xp requirements even on the package does not say you need service pack 2. I do not doubt you are a computer specialist but not everybody has a gift like you. That is why microsoft invented the plug and play but seems that mj let window xp become a plug and pray.
Regards gf.
Teano, its not any USB device that has the audio problem with windows its any USB AUDIO Device or maybe its any USB Voice Audio device. Regardless, windows decides when such a device is installed that it should be made the default. Programmers would need to capture the current audio device info and restore it after the magicjack device was installed and make that part of the install routine.
No I'm not a computer expect just a user who knows a little.

this is what I change:
Go to Control Panel
Go to Sounds and Audio Devices
Click on Sounds tab
Under Program Events
Highlight an event (click on it)
Change the assigned sound to " soundmax digital audio" on speaker and mic.
This was from somebody else in the forum ,only have changed from mj to my sound card devices and works ,now I can use mj phone and my media sound players.
Thanks for opening my eyes .

Your description of what you did is a bit confusing to me as sound/audio devices aren't usually a selection under program events. The default devices for sound and voice are not on the Sounds tab but on the Audio tab and the Voice tab. Defaults should be your sound card for Audio and MJ for voice.
Anyway you must have gotten it right because its working so enjoy.

How do you get the MJ for voice? and in my Master Volume, Phone line and PC speaker is greyed out. Could this be why I'm not getting a dial tone using MJ? (I'll keep it open in case someone knows and responds.) Thanksgarybritt wrote:.

It was a bug with Win XP SP2 that upon detection & installation of an USB Sound device, Windows changes the default Windows sounds to be played through the new USB sound device.
You can download MS patch KB935708 that will not make the new USB Sound device the default device:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... 86-ENU.exe

Holy Cow!! Whats up with this? Could it be I have the most $%&$&$ phones in America! I mean, none are new by no means...but what I don't understand is, at least I got a dial tone on a 1950 or so rotary phone. I don't get this..It's gotta be something simple.
If you get dial tone on the old phone it would seem that the MJ can at least pass dial tone from the
so called central office to your phone. I would either think its 1) both cordless phones are bad, 2) phones
are not getting power, 3) rj11 connection from phone to MJ is bad (bad cable). Did you try dialing out
on the soft phone on your pc and pick up the call on your old phone since it doesn't have MF tone dialing?

Hi scook. All the cordless phones are fine, I tested them at my MIL's house too.scook587 wrote:If you get dial tone on the old phone it would seem that the MJ can at least pass dial tone from the

Yes, I could dial out, (on soft phone only) but as soon as I picked up either of the phones, it would disconnect the call.
Thank you ALL for your help. Really.
I'm sending it back and getting a new one as I agree with everyone else..It's just a bad one unfortunately.
Jenny -- did you get your new magicjack yet?
It sounds like I'm having the same problem with mine. When I call my magicjack phone #, I get a strange ring on my phone. It worked fine when I first installed it, but I disconnected it to be able to use the speakers, and it hasn't worked since. I have no dial tone on the phone when I try to call using the handset, and when I try answering the phone (with the strange ring tone) it disconnects the call after a few seconds. Sounds defective to me, but I wanted to check with Jenny to see if replacing the unit fixed your problem.
Please let me know. Thanks!
