Problems in Canada

Post by elgringo »

Hello,

I live in Canada, and just bought a magicjack for outgoing calls only.

1. I cannot call any voicemail systems, cause digits are not recognized because of the echo (i think !)... When i press a digit, it is sent 3 times. This happens when using the phone plugged in the magicjack, and i've tried with different phones. It works well when i use the softphone though, but that.s not practical for me, to go on the computer to type my PIN code.
2. There is almost a second of delay when talking on the phone, so that's not very usable.

I am trying to figure out what's wrong, is it because the service is not liable in Canada yet ?, as it seems to be in the states ? Or could it be my setup... But i am not using anythng special... I have cable internet.... plugged into a netgear router.

Also, i saw that there is a vista upgrade, and that people seems to install it on XP... Should i install it, will it fix my problem ?

Thank you

When I first got my MJ back in July of last year I tried several different handsets with it. One very old set would exhibit this behavior. All the others, not quite so old, plus my GE cordless work very well.

As far as the upgrade issue, over the last two days when I try to start the MJ I began getting the NSIS error about a corrupted installer. Did MagicFix this morning but didn't work, clicked on the choice "Please connect your ..." and let it do the new upgrade to both PC and Mac. Now things seem to work again.

I can't say why this happened but that's what I did to get it working again. Hope this helps.

For what its worth, I'm in Canada. Got and started to use my mj a couple of days ago. For the most part it is working well with fairly clear communications. Also of note, I have Primus VOIP. I do find my Primus VOIP quality slightly better, but the mj is certainly very usable.

elgringo,

The MJ Tech Support recommends the Vista update regardless of what OS you are running.

I do have the Upgrade on my system that I just moved over to an XP machine because the MJ code (for me) does not do a very good job on Vista. The call quality on VISTA is just fine it is just some of the other features don't seem to like Vista or maybe it it the other way around.

PS - As far as you being in Canada, I don't think that makes any difference. To the best of knowledge when using MJ from any place other than the U.S.A. you never touch any MJ equipment until via "IP" you enter one of the MJ U.S.A. based Servers.
