Keep getting message to insert magic jack

Post by TRSands »

Our Majigjack was installed several weeks ago and was working fine,. All of a sudden everytime I click on the icon I get a message asking me to insert the magicjack even though it is already inserted and the light is on. I can see the magicjack drive in 'my computer' . I have tried changing USB ports no luck. I tried deleting the magicjackusp directory to see if it re installs from scratch but it wont. Can someone tell me how to make it reinstall itself.

Do you see one or two magicjack drives in 'My Computer?' You should see two consecutive drive letters, such as E: and F:. If you only see one, then that would be why you get the error.

And if you do only see one, have you added any new drive devices to your computer recently, such as an external USB hard drive, that could have usurped the magicjack drive letter? If so, and you are using Windows XP, you could change your magicjack drive letters by following the instructions I posted in this thread:

Hope this helps,

I m stilll getting the messages saying I must plug the Magicjack into the USB when I run the Magic Fix...

When I look at the drives in My Computer I see CD drive M and MagicJack(N) when I go into Computer Management CDROM 4 on M and Disk 1Phone Removable on N

This is confusing. Please tell me how to proceed

We recently installed Ace Retail 3000 on the system but I dont think that it should affect it

That sounds like you need to tell Windows to mount the MagicJack drives differently. This is described here:

I have already tried re assigning drives..... I changed it to M and N from F and G.
I know the device is good because I have tried it on two other computers with no problem.

I want to know what needs to be cleared to make the PC do a complete re installl

Are you running Zone Alarm or anything to protect your computer. I would disable those.

I'd also uninstall that software which you said you installed recently. Just to confirm that's not it.

I'd like to understand more about what causes this error. I'd like to put it in the wiki FAQ. But, I haven't seen enough about it to understand it.

We re only running avg ,However we have another PC with AVG there's no problem. I suspect that something in the registry is intefering. This PC has 2 installed CD drives can that be an issue?

No Luck

Post by TRSands »

No luck removing a CD drive... I think a clue is the fact that the MagicJack drive does not have an icon. On the other machines it has an icon that looks like a green keypad. Any one know why?

I believe it gets that icon from the drive itself. So, if it can't access that drive for some reason, the absence of the icon wouldn't mean anything more than it can't access the drive (or what it expects to find on the drive).
