Question for WRT54G, GS & Tomato users?????

Post by info_man1 »

Would like to know if any one DID NOT FIX the "Choppy Voice" issue after having this combination running?

Trying to find out BEFORE I spend more $$$ hoping to get MJ to work without choppy voice.

Thank you.

If you follow the wiki instructions http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... 9_voice.3F

it will give you a pretty good idea of how much QoS will help. If you can stop *all* other network activity (as described there), and do tests (especially the subjective echo-call test), you'll know how much difference it will make. It should make the voice quality nearly identical to when you have *no* other activity occurring.

The other tests described there would help you understand whether it's a line-quality problem, not a competing-traffic problem.

It's just a question of whether your time is worth more than the price of a new router. Some people might prefer to buy a router (or Hawking Broadband Booster) instead of spending 3-4 hours performing various tests to predict how QoS will help.
