Can I use MJ with ANY USB VOIP Handset / Phone ??

Post by pcguy760 »

I am new to this - I finally managed to get the software to work without the USB Dongle on my Laptop so now I am wondering ...

1. Can I use the software with any of those USB Phone Handset Devices?

2. Will the software work with a bluetooth headset since my laptop has bluetooth?

Thanks!

Yes, as long as your computer can pair with the bluetooth device and then you have to configure MJ soft phone to use your bluetooth as the input output audio devise, it is very simple I have done it myself and you don't need your SIP credential, but you wont be able to hang up the call using your bluetooth, you have to use the soft phone. On the first question also yes you can use one of those cheap USB phones only as an audio devise.

Sorry neo I love your forum but I think he is not referring to the ones you are thinking about

The only problem is pairing the bluetooth with your computer in Windows will need a third party software.

Thanks guys, that sounds great. Magicdump, so basically I will HAVE to have some kind of third party software running to use the bluetooth setup? I hope this third party software does not use up too much system resources, etc. since I am using this on a small laptop / netbook (EEE PC 1000H)

I will be using this with a Motorola H500 headset and the laptop's internal bluetooth card.

BTW- If anyone's interested, not only can you use the USB handset phone without the Dongle, BUT you can also use the USB phone WITH the Dongle.

To use the USB phone with dongle for MJ, first have the USB phone driver and USB phone installed, insert the MJ dongle, once softphone is up, click softphone "menu" pull down, then click "Volume/Headset Control"..., choose Headset/Other, choose USB Phone for Speaker, Microphone, and (maybe) Ringing.

Whalla ! No need for a POTS phone.

except for dialling. I have a USR 9602 USB phone (which works great with skype) but it only works for audio with MJ - no support for dialling via the buttons. Since this is running in another user process (fast user switching - the machine is my MCE Television and I don't want the phone popping up over my TV shows any time I make a call or take one) then I can't actually dial from the softphone.

Anyone know if it is possible to set up one of these to dial with MJ?

I installed my internet phone (USB), selected it under handset and it works fine. The dialpad on the phone does not work though but the sound is good. Using a proper telephone plugged into the MJ is best though.
