Where are contacts kept?

Post by DaveC »

Where is the list of contacts kept? I looked in PHONE>MagicJack folder but of the 3 files there, contacts isn't one of them.

I'd like to back up the contacts list in case I have to update or reformat the PHONE drive (it's a troubleshooting technique MJ support showed me).

Thanks,
Dave

Placement of addressbook

Post by kingjm »

if you enable to see hidden files and folders you can see more.

/Volumes/PHONE/majicjack/AddressBook.xml

there are five files in total. The other four are:

autorun.ico
CallLogs.clm
CfgCacheMac.dat
Profiles.db

I have v2.0.6 and can not find "AddressBook.xml" (hidden files displayed). Has it moved?

They are now stored on the MJ servers, you can copy them from your Magic jack account.

I need to IMPORT contacts TO MJ, not EXPORT. I'm chatting with Support now.

Doesn't matter if you need to import or export...they are on THEIR servers...not your computer..unless you recently saved a copy.

I understand that. Since there is no MJ import utility, I asked a Chat rep if I could send a csv file of my contacts to them, so they could load them for me. They said they would refer my request to the Engineering Dept but I could not get a telephone number from them. I don't have a high level of confidence that anything's going to happen. Useless...

Not sure if this would work or not, but what about trying to use the Outlook plugin and MS Outlook to get this done for you? If you import the contacts into Outlook and have the plugin enabled I wonder if that would place the contacts into your MJ account?

That's slightly different than your original question. The addressbook.xml is no longer on your system...and hasn't been for months. And I would be stunned if their Engineering department will do anything but tell you to enter it in manually on the softphone.

Yeah, it would have been easy enough to just edit the html file... I used to have a Windows screen scraping/macro app to populate Windows apps, reading from a file, when no import utility was available. Maybe I can find similar in a Mac app.
