Windows 7 - System Memory Usage grows while idling???

Post by kosherham51 »

When I checked my task manager this morning (running Windows 7, 6G RAM), I was shocked to find that Magicjack was using 360M of memory just idling. I shut it down and restarted it and it reloaded at slightly less than 40M but has grown to 47M in the last 10-15 minutes. Anybody else seen this behavior or have any idea as to what is going on?

Also rebooted into older Vista OS and did not see the problem. BTW - my magicjack will only work under Windows 7 running in compatibility mode for Vista. Wonder if this is causing the problem.

Have you tried this method for running mj on 7, does not require running compatibility mode.

it has worked well for me over the past week or so, but I have not been watching memory usage. Just looking at my current memory usage: after mj as been running for several hours it's at ~23M, after restarting mj ~17M, stays there till I make a call then it climbs to ~20M.

Yes - have set up exactly as described but it won't run natively (gets error 9). Only runs in compatibility mode and only Vista compatibility mode. I suspect I wouldn't have this problem if it wasn't running in compatibility mode. BTW - your memory numbers mirror what I was getting under Vista.

Just to see what would happen I ran my mj on win7 under Vista compatibility mode. I started mj at 5:30pm it was using 18.6M of memory. After an hour an a half, at 7pm, it was using 36.8M of memory. I made no calls, it was just idle like you described. Seems to be related to compatibility mode like you suggested.
