Frozen computer with MagicJack

Post by mrich »

I am also experiencing the computer freeze-up or lock-up with my MJ. First off, it takes four or five plug/re-plugs to get it working -- during most of the attempts the system accepts no commands at all; once or twice the MJ website started up. Then the start indicator will come up and the screen will appear and everything is normal -- MJ works in and out, system takes commands, I can check emails, etc.

This is a bit nerve-wracking as it took 3 MJ units to get a working one -- I am using a powered hub to get things functioning with the MJ.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Some PCs' motherboards have very bad USB hardware/firmware implementation thus causing many USB issues with OS (Windows). I can tell you on some PCs, I have absolutely no USB "plug & play" issue while other PCs, I have multiple USB related issues.

If you have another PC/notebook, try your MJ device there to see your USB issue is gone!

Update on the frozen computer

Post by mrich »

Just to update anyone following this:

My previous powered hub just plain died several days after the last posting -- it was a budget model from a Walgreen's that seemed to work well for most previous uses. I replaced it with a Belkin for $20 and it solved my MJ start-up and computer freeze-up problems.

I do encounter break-ups and voice issues during calls, most notably when another program is running on the system or the firewall sends a warning message. The voice becomes choppy and breaks up then settles in once the program has finished its business.

So things are beginning to look up for the MJ on my system. :)
