Do I need to uninstall before I start using new dongle?
Hi guys, this is my first post. To make a long story short, I tried the magic jack via their website and it's working great. However, I have a Best Buy gift card and didn't realize it was sold there, so I bought a new one and asked for an RMA for the original. I'm sending that one back tomorrow. However, before I do anything, do I need to uninstall the software (using the special instructions found on the internet since apparently there's no add/remove program found) or is should I be able to just use my new one from Best Buy?

1. There is no uninstall. There are various manual steps that have been recommended. 2. I don't believe you need to do anything. I bought a 2nd jack. I switched back and forth between my 1st and 2nd jack without any problems. The 2nd jack was hardware gen 3 (see the wiki FAQ for explanations). The only thing I noticed was Windows detected new hardware and loaded new USB drivers. (Which seemed to fix a problem I was having with erratic mouse/keyboard operation via a PS/2-to-USB adapter.).

Thanks for the reply and good information. I need to verify which has the latest generation model. I knew about there not being an uninstall as seen in my original post, but I'm very glad to hear that my new dongle should be just plug and play too. Now, I can't wait to tweak my Windows and firewall to get the max capabilities out of this thing. Thanks again!
Take a photo and email it to [email protected]. (PM me to let me know you sent it. I don't check that account unless someone tells me they sent something.).DoC_DaR wrote:My MJ adapter, about 2weeks old, isn't a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen. Could their now be a 4th?
