Suggestion for "You Must Plug MagicJack Into Usb"

Post by skipfreethrow »

Many of you might have been experiencing MagicJack not starting upon Windows boot. If you double-click the MagicJack icon and a message appears saying "You Must Plug MagicJack Into USB" in red text, then I might have a solution. It could have something to do with Power Management in Windows "turning off" power to you Magic Jack. Here is how I fixed it:

Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double-click System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
Under Device Manager expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
In most cases you will have two devices named "USB Root Hub". Double-click it.
Click on the "Power Management" tab.
Uncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power."

This isn't a solution to the problem, but it might help. Magic Jack has been loading every time for me. Feedback appreciated.

Thank you very much for this hint. This is just one more example of Microsoft thinking that they know better than their customers do.

Someone also posted that suggestion as a possible solution to choppy voice. It was noted by laptop users that their batteries drained twice as fast. So, mobile users should be aware of this potential cost.
