MTA 3328-2R ATA Unit: Can I use with MJ?

I did a search and could not come up with anything remotely relate to this ATA unit. I had this unit from an old VOIP provider that is no longer in business. I am thing of getting MJ and would like to use this unit if possible. It was the unit used before the MTA 6628-2R.

It has 2-phone lines, a WAN port and a LAN Port. The Firmware version is V6.3.48.

Is there anyway I can flash this unit with an upgrade Firmware from Innomedia or other Firmware and be able to configure the unit to work with MJ? I was able to access the GUI by issuing 192.168.99.1 and I understand I can access more features of the router thru telnet. Can I use the same procedure for the 3368 as the 6638 and if so, what are those procedures and referenced link.

There are two questions that need to be answered before you can know if your ATA is compatible with MJ.

First, is your ATA SIP or MGCP? As you know from reading here, MJ uses SIP. InnoMedia produced the 3328 for both SIP and MGCP protocols, and they do not list the -2R on their web site, so you will need to determine which protocol your device uses. Open your device manager and then to to the VoIP programming section. If the parameters ask for things like "Proxy Server" on Port 5060, you have a SIP version ATA. If the parameters ask for things like "Call Agent" on Port 2727, you have an MGCP version.

Second, is your ATA locked or unlocked? When you log in to the device manager can you reach the VoIP parameter settings and are you able to set or change them?

If you have a SIP device that is unlocked, the chances are excellent that it will work as an MJ client.

It works.... did you bother to search for innomedia... I am pretty sure I wrote something about innomedia or the model number w.o the spaces

Do NOT bother with upgrading the firmware.. If its not broken then dont bother fixing it

If I connect to by MTA 3328-2R via LAN to the GUI, there is no VOIP option available to configure. The only options are:

(1) Network Configuration
(2) Port Configuration
(3) Device Management
(4) Advanced Settings
(5) Router Settings
(6) Reboot
(7) Restore Defualt Values


However, If I telnet (using putty) to 192.168.99.1, I'm able to see the settings for VOIP and the ability to change the settings in a non-GUI interface. I was able to see such "Proxy Server" on Port 5060 for line 1, etc. I guess this means that it is unlock.

I use to use the ATA for my VOIP with a provider that went belly up and I notice within the telnet, it reference net2phone. I think the MTA 6328-2R was being offered as a replacement for the MTA 3328-R2. So, If the 6328 can be modified to work with MJ, why can't the 3328?

If it can, what procedure can I used to make the 3328 work with MJ? Also, what is the difference between the two units, firmwarewise?

Any help would be much appreciated, since I paid $95 for this unit and got maybe six months of use before the company went out of business!

These settings indicate that you have a SIP device, which is the protocol that MJ uses. If you can make changes in the Telnet interface and have them stick it means that the unit is unlocked and your chances of successfully programming it with your MJ credentials are good.

So, If the 6328 can be modified to work with MJ, why can't the 3328?

Neither the 6328 nor the 3328 can be modified to work with MJ because there is no modification to be done. You need to configure your 3328 with your MJ credentials. Follow the directions in this thread and match up the Line 1 programming information as described for the PAP2 with the parameter names used by the 3328. Also be sure to refer to kumar's thread because the parameter names of the 3328 are probably very similar to the parameter names used in the 6328.
