VMAIL button lights up now ?!
OK... several weeks ago I posted when I was told by MagicJack the VMAIL button and the LED on the softphone weren't features -- maybe in the future. Just there to look pretty.
Well today after being told voicemail was down and would be back up within an hour, I just noticed for the first time ever -- my VMAIL button was lit up bright green!
It's not perfect yet... putting my mouse over the button it says "There are messages waiting: 7/0 (0/0)" LOL
I logged in and checked my voicemail and yes there were 7 blank voicemail messages.... probably from when I was trying to get it to work earlier in the day.
Now the problem appears that I deleted these messages in voicemail and now the VMAIL button won't unlight bright green.
No problem, I will take it this is progress and that they are working on it. Just wondering if anyone else had noticed it.

Not only is the vmail button working but MJ must be sending a voicemail notification signal down the line as my phone itself now lets me know when I have a MJ voicemail (the light blinks and displays message "New voice message"). So that's kinda cool, though i don't use the MJ vm system anyway. Also when a message has been left, and I go to dial out, I get the "stuttering" dialtone at first, which back when I had a normal landline was the voicemail notification prompt.
And the light/notification came on instantly, no waiting 10 minutes.

Morpheus: What is "coming soon"? How do you define "coming soon"?
YES! I tried again this morning and voicemail/VMAIL is working very well!
Like SpamBox says, it notifies within seconds of a message waiting and also the VMAIL button unlights seconds after hanging up from checking messages.
It is also sending e-mails attachments of the messages again (It wasn't yesterday).
NICE WORK MagicJack!
I still have one one problem with voicemail. The timestamp on messages is in the wrong time zone. Maybe there is an option to change this in voicemail settings?
Yes, my computer has the right time but that doesn't appear to be the timestamp source.

Turn off voicemail, allow to change the number of rings, fix the time zone problem...
Fix the issue where someone can leave a longer than 2 minute voicemail (2 minutes is the cutoff) without knowing that only 2 minutes of it will be delivered. It doesn't beep or anything to let you know that you were cut off at 2 minutes.
plenty of work left to do

Really, is this true? 2 min. of voicemail but no end beep, you will have grandma talking about her cats and plants for hours. , so no warning at all, how does the caller know when the time is up? , I was not aware of this issue but will look into it.Maybe on your voicemail response you will have to say "you have reached the smith residence please leave a 2 minute message or shorter thank you"
help! I am running out of USB ports!!!!!!!!
Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a phone call... if you're unable to speak?

My VM light is not working either so its not just you.
Interesting... I ran magicfix to see what it had to say... it is stuck on "checking environment" for whatever the check is between "You do not have any programs running known to be incompatible with magicJack" and "Audio is propertly configured for your magicJack"
I did get my e-mail alert for the voicemail.

Xen1969,
Well my MJ does what I need it to do and that if free phone calls.
But I will say this every time you turn it on it is like having a new toy, you never know what it is going to do today.

I've had MJ since mid-February and the VM light on my phones has never lit up and the dial tone has never pulsed to indicate a voice message is waiting. I can't say whether there is any indication on the soft phone or not, as I rarely look at it. The last post in this thread indicates these features were working as of 3/3. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Sonan,
VM = the green light comes and goes, lately it has been mostly working. The pulsed dial tone has never worked that I know of.
Do you get an email notification off new VMs?

Thank you for the reply. I was hoping for a "Yes, it works and all you have to do is..." Oh well.
Thanks again,
Sonan
I do, and that's better than nothing. I just have to remember to check my e-mail more than once a week, which is about how often I do now unless I'm expecting something.HolmanGT wrote:Do you get an email notification off new VMs?

Sonan,
You could put something like Pop-peeper (email checker) on your system. It will check multiple accounts, is free, works good and has an alarm when anything is in your email inbox and you can set it to play any sound you want and remind you every five minutes until you at least check your mail.
And yes I know what you mean, just once it would be nice to get a response that says well go here change this and that will be the end o your problem. If that ever happens to you let me know. I have heard it can happen but have never personally experienced it myself.

That sounds like it will meet our needs nicely. I use Gmail, but there's a long, boring story behind why I can't just use the Gmail notifier. It involves marriage and "her" laptop and the thousands of lists she's subscribed to on her Gmail account... Anyway, Pop-peeper might do the trick. I may even create a new Gmail account just for voicemails and have Pop-peeper setup to check it. Thanks!HolmanGT wrote:You could put something like Pop-peeper (email checker) on your system. Sonan,
I am sure it will do a good job for you and it is one of the few that has a repeating alarm, so if you don't hear the first it will eventually get your attention.
PS - Pop-peeper will check sever accounts all at once or you can add a bunch and then disable the ones you don't want to check, you can also set it to check different accounts at different intervals. It works so good I feel guilty using it for free (well OK not really but it sounded good).

I am overseas in APAC on work using the MJ to keep in touch back at home. Works great here. I have noticed the VM light does work now. But it does take about 10 minutes for it to light up once I get a new message. No dial tone "studder". The biggest gripe I have is that I don't get email notifications of new voicemails and the time stamping is in ET zone. Any way to change the time zone for the stamping? I have contacted the support and they say the emails should go through.
1:04am EDT, I left myself a voicemail at 12:41am to test the vmail light on the softphone app and the actual phone I have plugged in - so far neither wanna light up. Plus, no email yet either. I DID get an email for a vmail once so far (another one I left for myself). I'm doing alot of playing/testing. I Just received my MJ on 4/3/08.
Anyone else having this issue? Or is it just me?
I did notice that when I plug the MJ into a different (and better) computer in the house, it automatically updated - AND i was able to submit my 911 info - neither of which happened on this system (Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop, XP SP2, P4 1.60Ghz, 768MB RAM, with Cable internet 15Mbps Downstream/2Mbps Upstream).
Related, maybe, maybe not.... thoughts?

Yeah, blue light on, all other services seem to be working just fine. Still waiting on my 911 to turn green - but w/e. Just waiting for VM to work properly. I left this all overnight, still no email, VMAIL light on Soft/hard phones.
^^^ and for the error from upgrading.... idk if this will help, but go to http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/ it will bring up an entire directory of every possible upgrade they've ever released, maybe a downgrade will bring you back? Just a thought.

I get the vm notification light.
I get the vm email notification.
I get the stuttering tone vm notifiation.
And have been going on months now.
Guess I'm just lucky.
I don't use the standard proxy but another one so don't know if that makes a difference or not.
And sorry not going to share which proxy it is as it's still has the best ping times for me, and I'm a selfish bastard and don't want it getting swamped by everyone.
You can figure it out yourself though - just ping each server.
And go with the one with the lowest number.

Message waiting indicator and stutter dial tone
I have my MJ service ported to a Linksys RTP300 and I'm no longer using the USB dongle. It works fine other than the message waiting indicator blinks and I get stutter dial tone as if I have voice messages waiting but there are none. I have tried resetting my VM and deleting all messages, no joy. I've searched on the forum here but have not yet been able to find any other thread that is even close. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem and there were 3 things I did to make it go entirely away.
1) Replaced Norton Anti virus with MS Security essentials (it's free)
2) Changed Windows tuning Option to schedule Background processess over programs
3) Removed an old wireless connection manager. Even though the dedicated PC was on an Ethernet connection, an old DLINK connection manager appeared to be trying to manage the connection and taking chunks of CPU in the process. There was no use for it, so I deleted it.
