To use DishTV, you must have a dial tone (or pay an extra $5/mo). Since Magic Jack is my only landline source, I'm using it for DishTV. It works fine...BUT... if both the DishTV box AND a telephone are connected (with a splitter) to Magic Jack, the phone line is very staticy--to the point of barely audible on my end, and I don't think the person on the other end can even hear me. DishTV "requires" that the line be always active--if it happens to be inactive when they want to upgrade or whatever they do on the phoneline, they automatically charge the extra fee.
Obviously I can disconnect the DishTV line everytime I want to use the phone (or even buy a phoneline A/B switch) but I'd like a PASSIVE solution. I've ordered a splitter with a DSL filter, but have my doubts that it will solve the problem. Any other ideas?

DSL filter doesn't solve issue
Well, as I suspected, the DSL filter did NOT solve the problem. I hooked the filter all possible ways to all 3 units (MJ, phone, DishTV box) and none solved the phone problem when both the phone and DTV box are connected to a single MJ.
Now I'm thinking about a second MJ.
Still considering a phone line switch, hopefully one that is passive.

Now MJ is screwed up
Good Lord! After trying the DSL filter -- which did not solve the problem above -- I reconnected just my phone to MJ. Now I get no dial tone but seem to be able to dial out and to receive calls. BUT... audio is barely audible. I'm almost ready to give up on MJ.

Re: g'bye MJ
You have a whole year to resolve it... unless you dont mind paying for shipping to ship it back... and if you gonna order it again you gonna pay $39.95 plus shipping again... I would just keep it, but thats just me... goodluckreb177 wrote:That's it... I surrender and I've requested an RMA to ship this back.
It's a great idea with lots of potential and will no doubt be huge. I'll buy it again, but not until this many issues are resolved.
