System Resource Hog and Poor Quality Calls

Post by gideon »

I have noticed two things since purchasing this product:

1. It dramatically slows my computer down when the MJ control panel is up and running
2. People can hear me a-ok but the download voice quality on my end is horrible.

If I have anything open, surfing web, checking email - anything - the incoming voice is just plain bad.

The support, even with an experienced VOIP consultant is bad - even second tier.

I think this product has tremendous potential but they are running it as an "As Seen on TV" company rather than one which can gain some real market share.

So, with that said, how can I get my calls to clear up so this thing isn't just a call forwarding service?

To add:

The console has got to be "up to something" for it to affect my performance the way it does.

What is it doing? What's it communicating with and for what reason?

I'm a new user to magicJack (since May) and I've not noticed the resource problems you seem to have. I've been on MagicJack all morning for work and what I do notice is some drop outs on the call when I surf the net. Annoying, but not too bad. Seems odd, because magicJack runs less than 5% CPU and
my network connection never exceeds 5% (of the 100 mbs LAN connection). My system is E8400 Core Duo 3GHz with 4GB of memory under XP Home (so only 3GB is used by windows).

Curious, can you provide more info as to your systems specs?

The wiki contains info about diagnosing and improving this problem common to all VoIP services.
