Still not working!

Post by Tragon »

Please connect to the Internet, and double click here [error 400]. I've had that for 4 days, going on 5.. You double click it and it takes you to the registry page. You enter your e-mail and password.. Click next.. the page closes and MJ flashes/refreshes and you're back to the "Please connect to the Internet, and double click here [error 400]" bs.

DOES that error mean that the server I'm connecting to is down? I've tried editing my hosts file. Tried on 4 different computers. Different USB ports, etc.. I even went as far as to add every proxy1.city server to my hosts file and link them All to a few different servers I've pinged. I've done the magicfix (Which gives me the error when "Checking network access to the magicjack servers." comes up. Error: magicFix received a "Bad Request" response the magicJack call server. Please report this error to tech support.

MJ's tech support aren't the sharpest crayons in the box. And yes, I said sharpest crayons.. They are as useless as my MJ at the moment. I'm told "Our engineers know of the issue, please wait 24 hours and they will contact you via e-mail"... 3 days later... No e-mail.. 10+ chats with the copy/paste answer tech support. And still no service. I get a dial tone, but cannot make any outgoing or get any incoming calls.

What would help me out greatly is this: What version do you guys currently have? Right click the USB drive and click Open. then right click / properties / Version, on the autorun.exe. I have: 1.70.4021.2809. Is this correct, or is my MJ just Not wanting to update to the 1.73.4153.2910 which is what I see in the latest updater (Not sure if it's Vista only or not).

That and/or tell me a server that's actually working that I can connect to? I've tried finding out what proxy I connect to with Fiddler2, but I'm not coming up with anything. My area code is 410 and I'd assume it would be the Baltimore proxy.. but I'm not 100% sure.

Please help... This has become a big pain in my ass.

MagicJack needs the followings:

- good internet connection with the following ports:

5060 - incoming
5070 - outgoing
443 - https for provisioning
10000+ for actual voice connection

Most people have issues with MJ not working if their internet setup has:
- existing/other VOIP service on the same internet connection (with ports forwarding active from the router)
- hardware router that does not auto open/close/forward ports needed for MJ
- hardware firewall (need to set rules to allow for MJ service)
- behind VPN connection (work)
- software firewall blocking MJ's service
- behind a proxy server (school, university, library, etc)
- ad-blocking proxy server
- anti-virus/spyware apps (that could also block MJ service)

If your MJ has dial tone, it means your MJ is properly provisioned (https port 443 is ok). If you can not make call or receive call then your MJ device could not get to ports 5060-5070. Perhaps you're currently having another VOIP service (Vonage?) and your router is forwarding ports 5060-5070 to the other VOIP's ATA device (and not to your MJ device)?

Tell us your detailed PC & internet setup so we could narrow down possible causes, the more details the better

Details ya want? Details ya got! :D

Comcast cable, 24mb beta service (I live right down the street from the main provider in my area.. gotta love that) Never had a problem with packetloss, ping times, everything runs with no lag, etc.

MJ worked flawlessly for months, up until maybe a week ago. It kept cutting out, giving me the error 400. I'd have to unplug the MJ, wait a while, then plug it back in. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. 4 days ago, it stopped working all together.

I have no other VOIP service, never have.
Currently running a Linksys BEFSR81
Quad core CPUs, 4gb ram, SLI setup etc etc etc..
WinXP Pro SP3
My main machine is set to DMZ (All ports are opened so I have a direct connection) I've tried port forwarding as well.
Windows firewall can be on or off (Ports already setup to allow)
No other firewall or AV software installed.
No spyware and/or virii that I have been able to detect.
Not behind a proxy server.
Trusted/allowed sites are added ie: *.magicjack.com *.talk4free.com

I've also tried the MJ on a 2nd PC. A Laptop, and another desktop upstairs. I've tried bypassing the router and hooking my main machine, then the laptop up for direct connections. I've cleared out my "mjusbsp" folder and have done clean installs. I even did a system restore back to a few days before MJ started to crap out on me.

I'm running out of ideas here.. Any help at all would be great!

One more possibility that I omitted: your Mj device is toasted

It's time to ask for replacement

I was kind of getting their myself.. lol Quick question. What version do you have when you go to options? If it's not letting me update, that might be a sign that it is in fact fried. Or at least something that would need to be replaced hardware wise.

I believe mine has the 2910 version. I'm not home at the moment to be more certain :)

I have 1.65.3714.2596 ?

I had the same problem for the first time the other day (double click to connect). Simply doing the cancel at the registration prompt restored it to working for me. I'm on a wireless connection so perhaps at the instant it needed it I didn't have a good signal.

Have you tried running MagicFix? I know it checks for things like provisioning servers now.

Well, I'm still not 100% on the whole updating thing, but I just spent some more quality time with a tech from their website. lol

Hopefully it's ok if I post a little bit of the log.. If not, I'm sorry..

Tech: I have escalated your issue and we are currently having an issue with error 400, Admin State = Blocked. Our engineers are currently working on it please give it 24 hours.
Tech: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
Me: So this truly IS a server issue? I don't need to put in for a replacement?
Tech: Yes sir.
Tech: Sorry for the inconvenience.
Me: Not to be rude, but I've heard the "escalated your issue, give it 24 hours" like 3 times now.
Me: I just want to make sure. :)
Tech: It's okay I understand.
Tech: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

Sooooo, I guess it IS server side after all? All the posts I've found on error 400 have been because of proxy servers going down. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.

And yes I've tried the magicfix.. It gives green checks until it hits the "Checking network access to magicjack servers".. Which then gives me a red x saying "magicfix received a Bad Request response the magicjack call server please report this error to tech support."

MJ used to work Great! Then like I said, over 2 days it started cutting out.. then like 4 days ago it shut off all together. I hope it IS a server issue and they fix it soon, so I don't have to deal with sending this thing back and getting a new one.

I also think its a server error most of these issues are almost always related to MJ's server's, please let us know how it works out, because its kinda hard to burn out a usb device, and maybe post your area code to see if someone else can verify the same problem. hope it gets fixed asap.
help! I am running out of USB ports!!!!!!!!
Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a phone call... if you're unable to speak?

Well, it's been a week and still getting the same response. "I apologize for the inconvenience. Our engineers are looking into this presently and we will get back to you via email."

My latest little chat session with tech support lasted over an hour.. A total of maybe 20 posts all together? Geez...

This is my favorite part:

Me: Does anyone even know what the problem is? Like I said, I've been told "Give it 24 hours, we'll contact you via e-mail" at least 4 times so far.
Me: Is there a phone # I could call and actually speak with someone? One of these engineers perhaps?
Tech: As of now we don't have phone support.

Yeah, I wonder why they have no phone support.. lol

My area code is 410 and I live in Southern Maryland. The only/last information I found on a 410 area code was almost a month ago, and they were back up and running a day later.. sooo.. I have no idea.

It would be lovely if I could figure out how to connect to a different server.. Everyone's MJ can't be down right now.. You would think there is a way to get around this. I've tried editing my hosts file but I'm having issues. I know How the hosts file works.. I just don't know what server I'm trying to connect to, so I'm having a hard time re-routing it. I've tried everything I can think of at this point.

And to top it off, a user on this forum just sent me a PM:

"If you PM me your MJ serial #, I'll try to see if there is anything strange about your account or the proxy it's connecting to.
The serial number is 14 hex digits starting A921000. One way to find it is to search your registry for A921000"

lol

OK, I'll try to provide some help even though you don't trust me. You can probably find the proxy you are trying to connect to by giving
ipconfig /displaydns
at a command prompt. Look for an entry of the form proxy1.xxxx.talk4free.com .
Better, run Wireshark to capture the traffic and see where the REGISTER request is going. Also, see if there is really a 400 response and whether there is any useful info in the other headers.

Sorry about not trusting you. :P I just know that certain things can be done with a serial# like that, and since you PMed me.. yeah.. :)

Thanks for the info and I'll see what I can find out.

Tragon,

If I was you I would trust Stewart with your serial number, all he can do is run up your bill to $00.00.

There are a few guys on here that know how to switch servers and a lot of other very VOIP specific backdoor stuff.

1. Stewart.
2. SpamBox
3. testing123
4. LikeMagic

I wouldn't be concerned about these people doing you any harm, and the kind of help Stewart is offering and the software he uses have a pretty high learning curve. Most of what Stewart is offering is outside the MJ TOS so they PM to keep it discrete. Well until now that is.

Ok, someone is definitely doing Something now.

I restarted my MJ and was getting the Error 3 this time.. And no green light on the 911 even. So I cleared my system of everything MJ and plugged it back in to start fresh.. Now It's just telling me to connect to the internet and click here.. Even the ADs section has a "Please be patient, a registration page will appear shortly" When I double click to get to the registry, it's just a solid white page, like it's trying to load a url but sitting at "waiting".

I did an ipconfig dns listing again and this time it actually worked.. Well, at least more than it has been in the passed week.

911.talk4free.com
----------------------------------------
Record Name . . . . . : 911.talk4free.com
Record Type . . . . . : 5
Time To Live . . . . : 300
Data Length . . . . . : 4
Section . . . . . . . : Answer
CNAME Record . . . . : prov1.talk4free.com

prov1.talk4free.com
----------------------------------------
Record Name . . . . . : prov1.talk4free.com
Record Type . . . . . : 1
Time To Live . . . . : 338
Data Length . . . . . : 4
Section . . . . . . . : Answer
A (Host) Record . . . : 67.90.152.80

And now (after whatever happened, has happened)

I did another dns listing and saw prov2.talk4free.com pop up, along with render.talk4free.com - ns1.talk4free.com..

I waited like 5 minutes and clicked to register. It allowed me to register and now I'm getting the error 3 again, and 911 is green once again as well. I keep refreshing every once in a while and it's going back and forth from error 3 and error 400.. So we'll see! So as I said, someone somewhere is definitely doing something. I hope they get it fixed tonight! :D

And sorry to Stewart and HolmanGT, I am very grateful for the help. Believe me..

Tragon,

Please accept my apology. You are obviously much more Geeky than I assumed. Respectively a complement and an admission of being a little quick with my assumptions. :)

lol Apology accepted.. I was about at my whit's end and wasn't in the mood to be screwed with.. When I saw it I was like heeeere we go! BUT.. Thanks very much to Stewart, he sorted some things out and was able to help me greatly. At least now I know that it's not on my end, that is IS a server side issue, and there's nothing I can do (other than give them hell every chance I get).

So, thanks again to Stewart, and you for that matter. :) Have a good night..

It seems like they were messing with things for 30 minutes or so, then stopped. Low and behold, still error 400... I think it's almost time for me to find some other form of making calls to Canada.
