Using Roxio or Nero? Houston, you's gots a problem!

Post by zeico »

Just got off the phone with another "techie" Eric at magicJack's TechChat. He (and two other Techs previously) informed me that MJ is not compatible with Roxio or Nero, and that I will always have issues it if I have either of them installed along with MJ. How 'bout THEM apples! How many of us "addicted users" of MJ are having problems with MJ and are using Roxio or Nero?

For what it's worth, anyway. Oh, and I wasn't talking about just Houston!

But, because I am truly addicted I shall seek to find other smaller programs that will do the same basic functions as Roxio or Nero - and hope they don't conflict, too.

problems with nero 6 and nero 5, but just unplug the jack and nero works fine. It doesn't like the imaginary cd-rom that magicjack creates.
but no big deal, i just unplug it when i burn.

I have DSL and discovered that my phone audio quality goes downhill if I download big files while using the phone. So, I don't do any converting or burning at all during the daytime. I use Convert X To Dvd which converts and burns to disk and I also use 1Click Dvd Copy Pro both great programs for file backups. But others have had the same audio problems while downloading and burning.

Well when you are using DSL and downloading big files, then it takes up most of your bandwith. If you set up some QOS you should be fine. Also it has nothing to do with burning discs... thats on the computer, nothing related with the itnernet

No problems with Nero 6, though I haven't tried talking while burning anything.

MusicMatch

Post by diamond45 »

My problem is with MusicMatch. MJ and MM do like each other at all.

I have to manually go into the task manager and kill the processes for MM to allow MJ to come up.

I have read on other forums that this is an known issue. Wonder if it will ever get resolved?

the "fake CD" that MJ creates is a pain. seems to stop my PC (WinXP) detecting other USB discs that are plugged in when the MJ is installed :(

Drag to Disc Feature

Post by NelsonDonnell »

I use a software program called Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin and removed the check-mark from the Roxio Drag to Disc startup feature and I noticed a substantial improvement in the operation and sound quality of magicJack.

I think the virtual disc that magicJack creates causes conflicts with the drag to disc portions of a lot of CD and DVD burning software programs, so it might be wise to control their automatic start-up features and just run them when they are need and avoid leaving them running in the background.

Pinnacle Studio software is also a problem. It runs ok if you are editing video or even creating MP4 files but if you attempt to covert video to DVD, even if you just select the screen with that option selected, everything locks and a hard reset is required.

Voice quality was minimally okay the first few weeks but now i'm getting terrible voice quality and I got the "Nero is not compatible, please uninstall it" conversation today from the MJ tech.. After asking how I return MJ, I got some more help related to turning on "allow control" of the usb in the registry settings. I'm not seeing any difference yet.

I also used nero 6 and 7 with no problems with my MJ. I can recommend DeepBurner or CDBurnerXp Pro as a replacement though, both are great!. Or linux.

I just got through deleting Roxio because tech-support told me to.....though, it didn't solve my issue. I asked if Nero would cause any problems and he assured me it would not....I hope he is right.

If you try out Convert X To DVD by VSO Software , you can see if you still have that problem. I've had MJ for a few months and use it to convert and burn and have never had any problem with combadibility. The only issue is with the audio . When downloading, say 5 videos, the audio gets real bad. But I have added the braodband booster by Hawking and now it's good most the time but it's better to just not do any large file downloads in the daytime when I need the phone. I set em up using a download accelerator to work all night. You can try the Convert X To DVD free for 30 I think. It's the easiest and best convert/burn software there is.

It's late I know but here's my 2 cents.
I just spent a month with the same Pinnacle Studio 11 problem. The problem was MagicJAck driver appearing as a DVD Writer drive. I disabled MagicJack driver and Studio 11 is fine. Must MagicJack show up as a DVD drive?

I have Nero installed but only the burner part. I think when you install the whole bloated Nero Ultra suite it conflicts with MJ

I have both Roxio 9 and Nero 8 on my XP computer running MJ 24/7 with rarely a problem.

I'm still a believer and have ordered my 2nd year of service.

MJ as a DVD drive is a problem with Pinnacle Studio 11 on a Vista machine not a XP machine, evidently.

Roxio and Magicjack

Post by gelineau »

I have the same problem, I'm using Roxio 8, and MJ has to be unplugged and PC rebooted before using Roxio.

Pain in the neck....

Anybody has solutions to get them to work together :( :(

I don't have Roxio, but what happens if you just disable the MJ CD-ROM device with Device Manager, can you use Roxio? Can you start MJ by clicking the desktop icon?

Diabling the driver allows the Roxio/Pinnacle Studio to function normally. When not using Studio I can Enable the MagicJack driver with Device Manager. A pretty poor work around but better than nothing. Updating the driver so Vista sees a removable drive or something would be a lot better.

Disable the MJ CD-ROM device and leave it disabled. To start MJ, use a shortcut to magicjack.exe with the target e.g. as specified in this post: http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/remo ... t1082.html

It works until you reboot, then the message asking you to plug MJ to the USB port comes on.

It's a good compromise it's easy to enable MJ back when you finished using Roxio.

Don't use ROXIO to burn stuff very often, but I did yesterday and ROXIO hangs. Unplug magicjack and ROXIO works just fine.

Does not work with Nero 6 on my computer

Post by magicjoe1 »

I've just had My magicjack for a few days and everthing was OK until I tried to burn a DVD. When I start Nero, the magicjack software starts to reload and Nero quits functioning. If I unplug the magicjack adapter, Nero works normally. I thought I would give Magicjack Customer Service a call just to see what they have to say. The answer was:" They are aware of the problem and are working on it". I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that someday they will fix it.

I am using Nero too and I have no problem. I was prepared to uninstall it if I had to cause I heard about problems with the compatibility, but it works just fine with Nero installed. I didn't try to burn anything yet either, but if it would be a problem then I just unplug MJ for 5 minutes and burn the CD. That is what Voicemail is for! lol

MagicJack and Roxio

Post by Midway_Island »

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My Roxio hasn't worked for about a month, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. I was on the phone with Dell for an hour trying all the things that tech reps tell you to try, but of course nothing they tried resolved the problem. It was about a month ago that I installed my MagicJack. I never would have connected the two. Thanks again! I'm so glad I happened to run across this site!
