Download in progress...comp reboots

Post by MagicMark »

Hello
Windows XP Home, Comcast internet,AVG Free and Firefox firewall and using Vonage for phone service and have already uninstalled any Musicmatch/Nero programs and every time MJ is plugged in and the MJ icon shows up saying "download in progress, do not unplug" my computer will reboot...every single time. I purchased an AC powered USB hub thinking I may have a low power issue and I've chatted with MJ's tech support to no avail. I moved MJ to the wife's delapidated laptop and it booted without a hitch. For the life of me I cannot figure what the conflict is.

Any ideas?

MagicMark,

This is probably going to sound a little patronizing BUT have you done all the Windows updates on your machine i.e. SP2 and everything since? I know the M$ has had some trouble getting their USB handlers to work correctly and has issued hot fixes, maybe you have missed one.

Not patronizing at all. Thanks for the reply. Service pack 2 is installed. I'm not aware of anything else I needed from M$.

MagicMark,

Again I assume you have done this but just go to Windows Update and tell it to check for any updates. You may also want to click on the view available updates after it is through checking. Normally it will only show you updates that it considers critical. By clicking on Show Available it will list everything it has for your machine software & hardware and you can elect to install them or not.

Worth checking especially when you don't know what else to do. :?

MagicMark,

Not sure what you mean but their are only two updates available here one titled Vista only, and Mac.

The Vista shbe called XP/Vista and the Mac, well I don't know but if you have a Mac it goes on top of everything else.
