Do a search in the forum and you will find several that should do what you want. I personally favor Wireshark because it records each channel separately. Cain is another. I either haven't tried the others or haven't been able to set them up successfully, but you will find some that are preferred over the two I mentioned. Good luck!

I have used audacity, with MJ, in the past successfully.
It's a free software.
I don't remember that it would automatically record. I had to manually start and end the recording. If someone knows more about it please let us know.

I didn't see that this was a requirement from the original request but, if I remember correctly, Wireshark and Cain can be set up to do this.I don't remember that it would automatically record.
Radio Shack used to sell are very simple device that would start recording as soon as it picked up a dial tone. Old school, and I'm not even sure if it's still available but it worked great.

I haven't seen the device that records automatically on detecting a dial tone, here's a device that connects to an old fashioned tape recorder. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2104040. When a call comes in that you want to record, you just press the record button. No fooling around with software on the PC. If you need to, you can use a patch cord and transfer the recording to a digital wav file. I've done this with interviews over the phone.slickxman wrote:...I want to be able to record my conversations...

There are 2 main ways to do it.
1. You can use programs like wireshark or cain to capture the packets in transit and pull the audio from them. I currently do this using cain and it only records when a line is active and keeps each call as a separate wave file.
2. You can hook a device to the phone line and either hook a recorder to it or plug it into your PC to use software like Audacity or many others. Below is a very cheap option if you go this router.

I am sorry you are in this situation but please be careful to follow the federal and state laws regarding recording a phone conversation. In my state both parties must be informed in order to legally record a phone conversation. I would hate for the one stable parent removed from your sons life because of a legal technicality. Here is a link that contains some information http://www.callcorder.com/phone-recordi ... merica.htm . I would consult with an attorney or a trusted member of local law enforcement to ensure you are in compliance with the laws. If you do record a phone conversation without being in compliance with federal and states the evidence that you collect will most likely be inadmissible in any court proceedings and may even get you arrested. Good luck and keeping fighting for your sons interests.
