I have used my MJ since last February. Perhaps it is not the best telephone service but surely it is the cheapest and the only one I can afford right now. Since I bought my MJ I have had increasingly bad audio quality. I have tried every suggestion, every trick, anything I have found in this forum, after wasting HOURS with the chat persons, etc...
I have a new DELL Inspiron 531 but I do not have a direct Internet connection, I am using a NETGEAR WPN311 PCI Adapter and I get the signal from my landlady's home. Once, my computer was connected directly to the DSL cable and Oh! the audio quality was perfect. Therefore, I have been considering getting Internet service in my efficiency. I have browsed on the Internet and found a rather economic offer from ATT which I can pay. People call this type of service "light" and it is FastAccess DSL Direct 768K. My question is: is this Internet speed sufficient for the MJ to have a good audio quality? Before going forward with buying this service, I would appreciate if someone could comment on this. I have 512 and no problems using MJ.
MJ only needs about 100Kbps connection - BUT..... One thing that will kill you is jitter. This is what is killing your (apparently) wireless connection to your landlady's internet connection. You might ask your provider-to-be if they support VOIP both in terms of not blocking SIP ports and also by providing low jitter.
