You cannot use the magicJack device without a computer. You can use the magicJack service without a computer, e.g. with an ATA or an IP phone. Although the present terms of service do not permit that, MJ has claimed that they will be offering such an option, presumably at additional cost, this month.

Jay, Check out this post. I purchased on and it works fine. It is a computer but it is tiny, silent and can be put under a desk, in a closet whatever. Makes no noise and generates about as much heat as your Cell Phone on a long call.

Also it is perfectly within the MJ TOS (legal).

I was told by someone that it is a client only and needs to connect to a server to run.

No that was its intended Modes Operandi but it works just fine as an MJ machine and you don't break MJ's TOS.

It is a little more expensive than an ATA but at $19 dollars a year you will pay it off in two months.

And you don't have to sit an listen to HD and Fans making all kinds of noise. (Fans that on a 24/7 basis fill you computer with dust). I open the Thin Client and it is as clean as a whistle. ... did I mention no noise, you could put it next to your bed and never know it is there except when the phone rings.

PS - It is a full blown XP SP2 machine that uses a solid-state hard drive, built in stereo audio, Video and you can browse the WEB and listen to music it that is what you want to do.

I just want to stick it behind my desk and use my MJ phone without leaving one of my main computers running 24/7

PS - don't jump out and by just any unit you find on eBay. there are some differences you want a T5710 or T5720 with a minimum of 256/256 Ram/Flash, 512/512 is better but not necessary.

nEXT,

It needs a computer to run the MagicJack software. So the answer is I don't know if anyone has tried it, I wouldn't suggest trying it, and No it will not work.

But is does sound like a good quick way to kill your MJ or router. If you have my kind of luck you could probably kill both at once.

If you connect MJ to your router, nothing will happend... Go buy the Thin Client for around $80 bucks... If you cut your landline you will get your money back in a month and a half.
