headsets

Post by bukzin »

Super newbie questions here.

I'm using a WinXP laptop with MJ and need a headset.

Looks like I could use a RJ-11 (standard phone jack) adaptor to
a headset (where to buy?). Or use the two 1/8 inch jacks on my Dell
(one for mic, one for headphones)

Am I way off base here?

What are folks using in internet cafes when they MagicJack?

Thanks,
Bukzin

Thanks,
I am using an ACER laptop with VISTA home premium on it.

You don't need any RJ-11 adaptors - you already have one (that's your MagicJack hardware). You can directly connect it to a telephone and use the telephone.

If you want to use a headset instead, you ave many options:
  • * You may use a normal headphone (which uses the headphone and microphone jacks on your machine) - you can get one for less than $10 from many sites.
    * You may use a USB hadset. This is what I use (I got a Logitech USB Headset from buy.com some days back on a deal for less than $10). USB headsets give much better sound quality than a normal head phone.
    * If your machine supports Bluetooth, you may consider a bluetooth headphones. Again, buy.com (and some other sites like mwave.com) have good bluetooth headsets/headphones on sale.

I don't think Magic jack is good for internet cafes

see you have to install software on the computer (if there is no limitations!) then thats possible then you have to reboot it numerous times (if they let you install or you get away with it or heck they allow you to reboot!)

I do not believe there is a way to convert the rj11 jack to a headphone jack

there is 2 wires to connect to (with a phone) in there.. never tried it if anyone has I would like to know the results

mic needs two wires so does the ear head phone part ... can't connect thous two together just not going to happen.

now your login and password protects you sorta but alot of the internet cafes I have been to monitor with keyloggers and such.. sorta not the safest thing to do in a internet cafe.

small story short.. girlfriend logs on to internet cafe in europe (someware) msn chats me checks email
20 mins later after she says good by .. I get her msn on again asking who I am...

just think about that for a min or two

You either figure out how to use it on a softphone and bring settings and all on a usb key or get a wifi voip type cell phone that will allow you to do sip.. magic jack I think is more ment for if your up at a friends in another country or you bring your own computer (notebook!)

maybe I am wrong but on the usb key its still a overstated marketed toy

telephone to headset adaptor

Post by bukzin »

I did find an adaptor from Radio Shack, part number 43-2017, $5. USD

http://www.radioshack.com/sm-headset-ha ... 49755.html

It plugs into the MagicJack phone input (RJ-11) and then can feed either
a headset with mic or standard US style telephone.

I am looking for more comments from folks that have used the MJ in
internet cafes, good or bad.

Did you ever pursue this? If so, what was the result?

A somewhat related question - has anyone found an adapter that will allow a standard PC 2 jack headset with mic to convert to a 2.5 mm jack for a portable or cellphone? I just can't find 2 earpiece headsets for portable or cellphones anymore at a reasonable price (used to use Radio Shack's $29, but don't think they make them anymore), but there are lots of them for PCs.

Somebody needs to make this adapter.

Others with the same issue:

Bluetooth My @$$

Unlike Skype their piece of junkware will NOT recognize a connected bluetooth headset. It's all lies designed to rip you off. As any Magicjack users knows their support is pure garbage. That's why forums like this HAVE to exist! This company is headed for the toilet. It will never catch on since only hardcore users can get their junk to work. It's really pretty sad since the hardware and design itself is really nice but their support is garbage. So long as you are happy using a regular telephone and do not mind a bad but functional message service you'll muddle along. I like how they even send you a .wav of you messages so you can just listen to your e-mail to hear messages without calling in but their headset support is a JOKE.
