Proxy for dummies

Post by dhart94 »

It has been suggested that i try to change my proxy to get better quality.
I download the Wireshark program and was able to fine out all my
call go through Washington.........perhaps that is a bad area.
I was wondering how to actually change the proxy, I have tried going
into DOS, but am having nooooo luck.

Really not a Dos person.

Anyone out there have access to step by step instructions that a dummie
can understand?
I have found many posts on the net about h ow to do it, but something
seems to get lost in how i translate what is being explained.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, getting really tired of this MJ
not performing as i was led to believe it would.

My wife is pissed, i have had my regular phone service cut off and now
rely on MJ, guess that was not so smart....

BTW i am using a powered hub
I am on a Thin client
I have port forwarded my router
I have enabled QOS
I have had many beers
Still have problems

Crappy audio
Not recieving many call, people say it goes straight to voicemail, doesnt
even ring.
Have to reboot thin client to make it work again.

Thanks in advance

Take a look at the Wiki: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... oxy_Change

You really don't "change" the proxy - you block access to the default proxy which forces MJ to find a new proxy. You can either block access using the route command in DOS (as shown in the Wiki) or you can do it in your router. Originally I created a .bat file to load load the route blocking in Windows. But I then added the routes in my router. Since then, most of my sound quality issues such as echo, stuttering, noise, etc have gone away.

Refer back to the wiki and see if you can tie into a server that gives you the best results, using the dos 'route add' command, and then take time to learn how to implement it permanently in your router.
Good Luck

If you're nervous about making changes I'd suggest you follow the Wiki and use the route command in DOS. That way the worst that can happen is that things stop working and you simply reboot your machine. Nothing is permanent.
