I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing, but believe me, MJ is starting to get into me. So much so that I want to buy one a few days from now. It's a product with a very big potential that I can't simply ignore. There's just one question that's been bugging me though, is porting possible?
You see, my parents have the good 'ol hardline/landline phone connection. My roommate and I are subscribing to a VOIP company for, you guessed it, $25/mo. And we were able to port over our number to this VOIP company from the local telco that we subscribed to before.
Truth be told, I understand how simple the process works. But what I don't understand is this line that I read in the website: "you're assigned a magicjack number...". This sounds so Skype-ish for me. I'd love to ask them but I see no phone number that I can call their customer service or sales department.
I appreciate your two-cent's worth on this issue. Thanks.

Is Porting possible with MJ?

Not yet
I asked the same thing because I want to drop my Optimum Voice, but I don't think they do it yet. The message boards seem to say the next 2 or so months for a fee of some amount. I have my OV number forwarded to MJ and it works great.

I have chatted with an MJ tech awhile ago and she told me that number porting and byod will be a feature in the future, but dont know when... so wait till you see it in the features page or you can try MJ now for 30 days, FREE!!!.Green Siren wrote:I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing, but believe me, MJ is starting to get into me. Yep, I guess I will.
Thanks jkb246 and gooney! Too bad we cant port out the numbe just yet. But anyway, it's free so no harm done. The cost and the free calls of MJ outweigh the inconvenience of maintaining the other VOIP line. I hope the featue will be launched soon.
