A friend of mine hooked me up with a guy in columbus that does pc work including TC's for MJ. For $65--(plus $5 shipping), I am getting a Wyse WT9450XE. It has 550mhz cpu, 512mb ram, 20gb 2.5" hdd, xpe, and a bunch of other software including config of MJ. It has the xtras including auto restart after power loss.
Is this a good TC for total of $70?... I hope so cause I will have it thursday or friday.

MJ doesn't require much computing resources, so the unit should be fine. It'll be interesting if the 550 Mhz processor is sufficient, you may have to deactivate any other non-essential processes. You won't need firewall or antivirus. If it comes pre-setup for MJ, you should be fine. The biggest factor is your Internet service.

Are you running MJ on another computer currently? If so, you'll have something to compare.

Let us know how the 550 MHz processor works for you.

I am running MJ on my desktop which has an AMD Phenom IIx4 940. As far as my internet goes I have roadrunner turbo from TWC. I also have a WRT54GS2 V1 Linksys router. No antivirus?... shouldn't anything that is exposed to the internet have virus protection?...

The thin clients aren't susceptible to viruses--well, they are, but you just turn them off then on and they go back to the way they were before the virus. I have anti-virus on all the other machines on the network.

The thin client's flash DOM was replaced with a 20GB laptop hdd. Changes are automatic instead of having to commit them. I think I need virus program.

Got my TC yesterday in teh mail. Everything is up and running with better call quality than my desktop. The 550mhz cpu does just fine with MJ. I like that it has 512 meg of ram and only half of physical memory is in use. TC with MJ is definitely the way to go.

No real need for an AV proggy if you only use it for mJ. A good router with a firewall will suffice. But if you must, give ClamWin a try. It's great for low power/memory machines. It has practically zero overhead as it does not perform real time scanning. It will update and scan on schedule though...and the best part is it's FREE!!!
