mj issues with windows 7

Post by greendesert »

I am having issues with mj on my windows 7 laptop.

When I plug in the usb device -

a pop up windows with message - do you want to scan and fix mj ?
I opt for - continue without scanning.

then second window - autoplay ?
with options - open folder to view files OR
use this drive to backup

I just close it up.

Third window which shows me content of the drive namely :
autorun.exe;ico;inf
autorunu.exe

of course I close it again

and then I have to click mj icon on my desktop as it will not start iteself

then I get mj window : verify your log in.
mj has alreayd been registered but please enter your email address and password to verify
your existing account. And I HAVE to do that.

Finally I get to mj interface windows but all my contacts have disappeared,

I chatted three times with mj tech support but with no resolution.
Lastly, he gave link for a update which seemed to flash the device.

Does it mean mj works fine only on win xp machines ?

I purchased as Acer Aspire One with Windows 7 Starter on it. I'm having similar problems.

When I plug in the jack, I get an AutoPlay window allowing me to open the magicJack Vista Only drive to browse the files, and I get a CD drive, under Computer.

If I try to open the CD drive, it tells me it is unreadable. The only files on the Vista Only drive are an autoplay file, and a text file that says "do you not use this drive".

I've attempted to apply the "Windows 7 update" from their site. I've attempted to run it on Windows XP, and on the Windows 7 machine, and both times, it tells me that my device is not plugged in, or does not need the update. (The device was plugged in.)

My device works normally on Windows XP, even after this fiddling around.

But, I want to make the Acer be the full time ATA sorta machine for the mJ. Anyone have any ideas?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and MJ Issues

Post by DCurns »

I have tried for 2 days to get my MJ to work on win 7. Win 7 doesn't recoginize the USB device. I did the win 7 fix/update which seemed to make it worse. now the light goes off 2 seconds after plugging it in. Before the update, at least the light stayed on. I have searched for a driver for win 7 to no avail. I have had my MJ for over 2 years now. This is the first time I've had any issues where I coudn't resolve it myself. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get this thing to work? I tried reinstalling it on my old Win XP desktop and get the same message, that the OS doesn't recoginize the USB device. Any help would be appreciated.

Running Win7 Pro 64-bit on my laptop. Yes, I have to manually start the MJ. Once it's started, it works fine. I also use it with the TJ echo canceler. No problems.

If anyone can help with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm having the exact same issue.

Thanks!

turn "autoplay" off.

then u wont have that popup every time u plug in a usb device that also acts as storage device, and yes, MJ is a storage device, it has like 17MB of useable storage.

turning autoplay off will affect ALL USB DEVICES that are used for portable storage

Thanks sowhatu. I discovered that a few minutes ago. I got it to work, ran the update, then made the mistake of following the directions on magic jack and replugging it in. I had to go through the process all over again. I finally got it working. I was ready to take a hammer to it.

And seriously, I'm afraid to turn my computer off now.

either supply a win 7 driver or lose a lot of customers

Post by DCurns »

I tried everything suggested and then some. Nothing works. "UNKNOWN DEVICE" (CODE 43) If MagicJack doesn't supply a viable device driver, this one is going to become target practice for my 54 Cal. I've already wasted over a day trying to get this to work. If others are having as much troube as I am, this product will be just another one that drifts off into the sunset, never to be heard from again.

This is what I did:

Click on start. In the search box, type group policy. You'll see 'edit group policy' come up. From there click on Administrative templates, windows components, and then auto play policies. Where it says turn off auto play, I enabled it. I plugged in the magic jack, and since the computer didn't try to automatically start it, it stayed on long enough for me to install the software.

I made the mistake of following the instructions on the upgrade, where it said to unplug the magic jack and plug it back in. It sent me right back to the 'unknown device' mode, and I had to play around with it a few more times before I got it working again.

A few other suggestions I read, and what I tried a few times also, was to power down the computer and unplug it for a minute or so to reset everything. I also tried plugging the magic jack back in before powering up to see if the computer would detect it or not.

The very last thing I did after stopping auto play when I messed up again, was to unplug the magic jack, uninstall the unknown device, and then plug it back in. That got me going again.

I hope that made sense.

same problem here

I wasted 5 hours trying to get the tech chat folks to fix this issue. They were clueless and incompetent. Sorry but I don't really understand your directions. All I really got out of what you said is to disable auto play? Can you maybe try to give us a step by step guide of what you did without including the things that didn't work? lol

:?

My magicjack is one of the older YMAX models

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit but it doesn't launch under the 32 bit version either. It also did this with Vista.
