Calling international numbers with your home or cell phone

Post by jsherk »

MJ recently introduced (or I just noticed it) the ability to call international numbers from your cell phone or home phone.

You need to choose Register Phone Number and enter your cell phone number (or any non-MJ number) from http://my.magicjack.com/login.html

Then you add some prepaid minutes and you should get an email with the number you call from your cell phone to make the internationa calll.

Unfortunately it only works with prepaid international and you cannot call US or Canadian numbers from your cell phone.

If you want to use prepaid service ( something I do not like), you are better off with Google Voice for bothj your cell and MJ. For regular postpaid service, I use Telna for both my cell phones and MJ .----------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.telna.com?aid=1160 for the homepage
http://www.telna.com?include=signup&aid=1160 for sign up

Unfortunately it only works with prepaid international and you cannot call US or Canadian numbers from your cell phone.
What does that mean? Most cell phone plans have US long distance calling included and for those which do not , you can use Google Voice or for canadian numbers the abovementioned Telna.

I have a call-anywhere-in-the-US cell plan, so it's not an issue for calling US numbers. I probably call Canada once a month... it would have been nice to do it thru magicjack for free, but I really don't need to do it from my cell... I can wait until I get home.

I will check out the telna website... thanks for the link.
