Restoring my TC after the big MJ update trashed it.

I have been running on the Desk top now ever since that disasterous MJ update killed the TCs ability to work with MJ, but I need to get it back on the TC. On the Desktop it sounds like a wide bandwidth signal wandering about in a narrow channel. For a while it will be fine then it starts chopping off words and then it will drift back into the center of the channel and sound good again.

I decided to just start over with the install, but that hasnt worked

I have gone back to the DOK I originally used to set up the TC and when it is plugged in I get a set of the following error information

"Updating ESCD....Success
"Verifying DMI Pool Data......
"Error, Non-System disk or disk error, replace.....etc.....etc.....

So I started over with another mem stick and created a DOK and then ran the HP install file and created ANOTHER DOK that should be bootable. I tried that and get the SAME error line saying it is a non system, disk

Now, the only place where I deviated from the instructions on creating the DOK was where it wanted to install Win 98 files on the DOK and asked for the location. I dont have Win 98 and the instructions were not clear as to WHAT to do in this case so I did NOTHING.

I would suspect that this is where the problem lies.....except that the old DOK that I originally used also gives that error. And it WORKED at one time so it must have been created correctly.

I would appreciate some help here as my wife is panicked without a telephone. Never mind that when a child she didnt have one and survived.

What model TC do you have??? Did you change the boot order in BIOS to boot from USB?

The DOK must contain the MS-DOS boot files, command.com etc. HP has them available for download.

Format the DOK with the FAT file system and let it use the system files from where you decompressed them after downloading above.

I have found the t5710 to be finicky when switching to loading from a DOK. What works for me is to not only turn off the power but remove the power connector from the TC for a minute or two then plug it back in.

Thanks. I solved that problem and now have the MJ running on the TC.

The first problem after reflashing the TC was that the MJ wanted to "Downloading, please do not up plug" for ever. After letting it sit over night downloading I unplugged it in defiance of the request, and plugged it back in. Should have done that immediately in stead of waiting, because that fixed it immediately!!!

The second problem, I am still working on. I got a "Low on virtual memory" message when I tried to start IE. So I went back in and reset the RamDisk to 16 MB. The instructions did not mention this but I figured it would free up 48MB of ram. That didnt help, I still get the "Low on virtual memory" message.

I need to run IE so I can download TightVNC so I can set up the server.
