t5700 unnecessary files

Post by cakegetter »

Hey guys I just purchased a t5700 and I have mj and a wifi program running, I was just wondering if anybody knows all the unnecessary files I can erase to free up memory. I just wanna run magicjack and wifi and Logmein which is a program i could use to control the tc from my laptop( I have vista basic so no remote desktop) So if anybody knows any programs files or folders that are definately not needed please let me know, thanks.

Check out the Dummie's guide to the 5700, under "delete unnecessary packages" in the 1st post. http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/dumm ... t3605.html

I also deleted (or didn't install) direct X and MJ works without it. I also deleted Sygate and instead relied on the fact that no viruses would be permanent on the TC as I could just reboot and the TC would revert back to the state before being infected.

For something lighter weight than LogmeIn (it's a great service, I'm using log me in free extensively), try TeamViewer or RealVNC on the TC. TeamViewer I'm not familiar with, but with RealVNC, you can control your TC from anywhere over the Internet.

thanks tony, I already followed jeepsterguys post somewhat. I deleted the programs manually. I was just wondering if there was anything extra that I could delete to free up more space, thanks I'm gonna give realvnc a shot.

Does anybody know what happens if you delete microsoft shared folder in common files? What about deleted common files altogether? Someone please let me know, thanks.

I'm not sure the shared files consume that much room?

Tip with RealVNC, you'll need to make an entry in your router's port forwarding settings and forward port 5900 to the internal IP address of your TC.

Hmmm, interesting. The RealVNC download is only 724K. Just to be sure, I get RealVNC free from http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi When running, task manager reports 3,756k of memory usage. Just checked LogMeIn and its 3 processes take about 15,000k.
