Do people that call me from land lines in my local area get charged long distance charges or do i get a local # for my area?

If you cannot get a local number for your Magic Jack, then yes, it will be a toll call for your neighbors to call your Magic Jack. Nowadays, many people have some sort of long distance calling plan that will either make those calls free or cheap. If they don't, then they will pay the toll charge.

Your calls to them will be free.
