busy signal

Post by fishwilly »

I'm having a problem with an intermittent busy signal with incoming calls. No problem dialing out however. I'm running an intel based mac with snow leopard. Anyone hear of this problem?

i don't know if this might help but i don't think it has anything to do with the mj unit. We're in area code 613 and a few of my friends are having the same problem. Even when you unplug the unit the default is supposed to bounce back to the voicemail but this is not the case , we still often get the busy signal. Could it be problems with their servers. oh and this only happens for incoming calls ...no probs with outgoing.

hi, i have the same problem. randomly i will get busy signals when trying to call my magic-jack... so i try to call a few times and eventually i will be able to get through.... this is a huge problem for me as i would like to use my magic-jack as a permanent land-line. Ive tried reinstalling windows, running magic-jack as service, putting my computer in the DMZ on my router... nothing seems to help, the only other thing i got to try next is to use a USB hub

I'm in 519 in Canada and getting the same issue. I see no reason why a busy signal should ever happen on incoming calls. If the IP call can't find the endpoint device, why not just default to voicemail? MJ knows the account is active.

This seems to be happening more and more. Incoming calls only it seems.

It may not be on MJs end. It could be the phone provider that is trying to call the MJ. I had this happen when I first got my MJ number. AT&T (our local landline provider) was not aware of the new MJ prefix, so their routes were incorrect providing the caller with a busy signal. After I called them to notify them the issue was resolved in about 24 hours.

I'm having the same issue also with a Canadian number. I was hoping it was the prefix not being updated with all phone companies but I don't think so.

I can try on the same phoneline and eventually get through.

It seems like the magicjack servers are the ones with the problem. Unfortunately this will be a dealbreaker for most people. It's a shame, I've got crystal clear call quality yet I can't give out my magicjack number because it's too unreliable.

problems with Canadian area codes

Post by notdeadyet »

It seems that all the Canadian area codes are experiencing this busy signal :( I've been working on this exact problem the last few days.
First, when I was calling from my Cell to MJ, I kept getting an operator from Bell asking me the # I was calling, and then saying to try again later cause the # was good, but for some reason it wasn't going thru. I then contacted MJ technical (after reading other posts here) to check the #, and since then I haven't gotten an operator again, but I now get the busy signal. I read today on another forum about VOIPs that since they're using computers and servers (unlike Bell for instance), service can sometimes be erratic, especially during peak usage hours like 7pm to 10pm, which seems to be the times I'm having trouble with. I test all day long, and no problems, but every time someone calls me at night, BUSY :( I'm trying to get them now to try a few more times before calling my land line (long distance for them) to see how that works.
But any fix to this would be GREAT!!!!!
I always want/have my MJ call forwarded to my landline, so testing was a problem since I would still get a busy signal unless I used my cell, but tonight I came up with this: call forward MJ to the test line 909-390-0003, and voila, you have a # to test with and not bother anyone...so I'll try it out tomorrow during peak hours and see.

I'm in Canada and having the same issue. Incoming calls get busy signals most of the time but out going are fine. Did you ever find a solution?

Sounds like all us Canucks should flood the chat support board with this problem until they fix the issue. My MJ has become useless junk because of this!

I've also been having the same issue for the last 2 weeks or so. Tried everything: Changing usb ports for the jack, rebooting the pc, another pc in the house. And it still sounds busy more then half the time for incoming calls.

I get intermittent fast busy signals, which (in the old days) indicated a trunk busy, not the phone being called.
The odd thing was that at the time my line was sending fast busy signals it was forwarded to my cell phone, which has never generated fasy busies.

Hi, I am also experiencing this problem. Since Saturday, I cannot receive calls to my MagicJack but can make them. My temporary fix is to forward the calls to my cell phone. But I hope they fix this soon. Evil or Very Mad

I too am having issues and i'm glad i'm not a business cause imagine if you run a business and people are trying to call your business and think your out of business cause whenever they call it gets fast busy signals.

Well I hope they fix it cause its on "their" end not ours and they have to realize that after this upgrade that now the problem is happening cause of the upgrade. I never had this issue before but not with the upgrade its happening to all of us.

I had a chat with tech support over 20 times and only 1 time they brought me to a higher level tech who said they would bring the attention to the engineers.

I hope they fix this cause i hate how people try to call me and its always a busy signal.

same problem--can't receive calls or messages in Canada

Post by "mad"gicjack »

Same problem here. I'm in the London ON areacode--226--and people can only get through to me or my voicemail about 1 out of 5 times. So they're stopping trying.

I've had three fruitless and time consuming chats with the tech twits. They don't seem to think for themselves, just go through the script. It's clear they haven't even paid attention to the problem--keep asking me to change settings on my computer--even though my computer's not even on at times when people can't leave me a voicemail.

Yes, this thing was only 50 bucks, plus 10 for a Canadian number, but that's 60 bucks too much when it's useless.

Is there anyway we can band together and send Dan the inventor a message from Canada?
