MagicJack only starts when mjusbp/Upgrade/setup2.exe is run

Post by partymetroid »

Hello. Our MagicJack used to work for a while, but now it won't start up; only the splash screen is shown indefinitely until I close it via Task Manager... "one minute of patience" my butt! haha ;)

Anyway, it WILL run when Drive:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\mjusbsp\Upgrade\setup2.exe is run... but that is rather inconvenient for my parents and doesn't seem to be the proper way to run it. :)

I would greatly appreciate anyone's help, becuase I'm at a total loss and forfeiting our MagicJack would require us to pay a huge monthly phone bill if we wanted to enable long distance. :P

Thanks!

Same issue here.

To solve I changed the original shortcut for MJ to point to the new setup exe in the startup folder.

edit: This started with the "UPGRADE" earlier this month.

The only way to get it working again like it should, you have to re-install windows. :?

I tried completely removing MagicJack from Windows and reinserting the dongle into the same USB port it had used to work with.

It gave the "Downloading now ...." dialogue, and it installed... but I still get the perpetual "One Minute of Patience" dialogue.

I'm at the end of my rope right now. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. :)

MAYBE the last MJ update earlier this month messed things up for you ( it did for MANY).
Try this DOWNGRADE "update" see if it helps..

That didn't work. :(

[edit] I mean "help".

Well... it looks like I should reinstall Windows? I hate reinstalling Windows... but if it means saving money... I'll do it. :o

Did you try using the removal tool on MJ site and then reinstall the MJ software?
I don't have a direct link but if you do a search in the FAQ section for removal tool, you will see it.

Let me know

You could try reinstalling windows, but before going that far, I've found that Revo Uninstaller can get rid of the hidden registry entries and such for other difficult to remove programs.

I haven't tried it to wipe out a Magic Jack installation, but it has a real good track record for a truckload of other stuff.

I use the free one (on the left) in "advanced" mode.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I did indeed use that. :)

... to no avail. D:
