MJ Program failing where program has been stable for 5 month

I'm technical so don't be worried about your suggestions being too complicated and hopefully, I'll understand your suggestion quicker than most.

I'm running the MJ on any of several systems on my network: The OSs are WinXP Pro 64bit, and Vista Bus 32bit. Plenty of ram, plenty of power.

MJ has been running pretty good on either system.

As of 2 days ago, the MJ program will fail. I can launch it, make maybe 1 phone call, and then it will just fail. It will fail 'during' my phone call at times. Certainly after 1 or 2 calls, it fails. I've not made any changes 2 these systems, except maybe some regular MS updates were applied to one of them.

Make sure XP is at SP3 and Vista is at SP2. This should fix the memory error and mJ crash. For a temporary fix you can also change the system date to anything prior to the Dec 24, 2009 mJ update. Just changing the year will suffice.

EDIT - Ignore the above. Changing the date works, but you lose all contacts and call logs. SP3 has nothing to do with the problem. Clearing your call log list will fix the problem. See more here:

Certainly, both systems have the latest SPacks. They were both updated months ago. I believe, they were updated before I purchased MJ. Therefore, I think we can rule the SPs out as causing the issue.

When you say, "...change the system date to anything prior to the Dec 24, 2009 mJ update," are you referring to the system's date? The last part, "...2009 mJ update," makes me question if you're perhaps referencing some date on MJ?

If no, I need to keep the system date correct as several programs rely on the system date.

Is there anything else in the error report that gives any clue as to something else to try?

I wonder why MJ 'suddenly' started failing on both systems? Is there something going on at MJ that is causing this for end-users?

I've looked up the error message provided by Vista in case there is something else there which might help. Here is one of the errors related to MJ:

I can confirm this is occuring since Jan 25, 2010: WinXP/SP2 Pro

I am convinced this is due to a bad update from MJ.

The PC is rather old with limited ram however it is a MJ deticated clean install of WinXP. I don't even surf the web on it.

No changes to my network or ISP confirmed. No recent MS updates and antivirus is active and clean.

MJ has run stable for the last 5 months on this system.

I tried disconnecting MJ, deleting <C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Application Data\mjusbsp\*> and rebooting. This did not resolve the crash.

I tried changing the date to 1/28/2009 then the above step.

After rebooting and connecting MJ I let it update (downgrade?) and no crashes since.

WTF?

I had a bit of time to play with the actual problem and was able to resolve it on my end so I thought I would share the fix.

After realizing the crash occurred when the MJ app synchronized the contacts and calls list I cleared the calls list (right click on a number in the list and select delete all calls). I reset the date to read correct and rebooted.

After the reboot and a test call to voice mail the issue was resolved. It also probably helps to clean out the new voice mail folder. This took two calls for me as some vmail was not announced on the first call.

If this does not work for you please post a follow up and I will research further. I'm not sure why the date setting surpresses the app crash however I did notice the contacts and calls sync would fail when the date was set back a year. Maybe the sync crashes when it hits a nonsense number/cid (ie. 000-000-0000)?

I get somewhat similar error message

My magic jack runs on latest windows 7 OS

I run on a powerful enough system (E6300 Duo,4GB,1TB)

It started failing today at 12:30 pm ... ran without problems before that

I tried rebooting and still I am getting problems

I don't want to change my date either since other things depend upon that

I don't see anything modified on my Magic Jack (Vista only) G: partition

so problem goes beyond OS, hardware and maybe even any s/w update

Maybe problem will correct itself after couple days or at least I hope

Did any of you run the "downgrade"?? It seems to fix a WHOLE bunch of problems caused by the early Jan "update", update my ass...

This is a little embarrassing, but perhaps it will save someone some aggravation. After the last "Lucky You" upgrade, my MJ has been giving me fits, with no help from upgrades, downgrades and other fixes.

Finally, I read recently somewhere on the forum I need to be on XP SP3, since I turned off my automatic updates. Keeping my fingers crossed, but my little bundle of joy seems to be working fine, once again.

UPDATE: I posted this in another message but keeping my fingers crossed wasn't enough. I put both my MJ's away for awhile until they can figure out how to make the silly thing work without crashing. Until then, I'll just wait for the next "Lucky You" upgrade and continue to monitor this forum until it's released. Sad; it used to work.

I got new home built computer (E6300,4GB,1TB) a couple months back and windows 7 a couple months ago and magic jack performance has been excellent

Before that, I ran it on a computer i bought in 2002 with XP and 512MB memory. magic jack would not run well during heavy rush hour period and earlier part of saturday .

I run on a comcast at least 12MB/2MB which helps also

I was hoping my computer upgrade would help and it did tremendously

Every 2-3 years i plan on upgrading my motherboard and cpu when the cpu's like intel 860 becomes cheaper

Hi - Same problems here. The MJ softphone just crashes for no apparent reason (though I haven't found anything in my event viewer to indicate the crash). I'm on Vista Home Prem.

I can't say exactly when this problem started, but late January is about right. Must be the MJ Upgrade.

I first tried clearing the call logs... and I thought that worked... but I started having the crashes again.

Today I deleted the call logs, the contacts, and cleared my voicemail box. We'll see how it goes.
