Editing Registry Entries

Post by kuhntech »

I was messing around the other day looking at different keys in the registry of my MJ dedicated PC. The following entry is what caught my attention:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\talk4free\USB Softphone

I previously changed the registry settings for "Calling Options" to workaround the MJ voicemail. It has been working wonderfully. My MJ phone rings 4 times and then goes to my GV voicemail. The calling party hears 5 rings then my personal greeting from my GV account. I figured since this registry change worked, why wouldn't any others? Considering MJ's dongle supports the functions that appear to be available in the registry settings.

There are a couple that I was curious about and wanted to know if anybody has have any luck changing the settings. One thing was the "Custom Ring File". I read somewhere in the forum that you ring could not be changed. This seems like it might do just that. Again, I don't know for sure and I have not tried changing it yet.

Another one I was interested in was the "Skin" folder. It looks like you can disable the "big.skn" file from the registry just by changing the "Use Skin" entry form 1 "Yes" to 0 "No".

There seem to be so many different, and at risk of sounding like a geek, exciting settings in the USB Softphone folder. A big one that might help out a lot of people is found in the "Software Update" folder. There is an entry that says "EnableAutoUpdate". It seems like changing the 1 to 0 would disable the auto update feature. So you could roll back your software before the call log / contact list update and disable auto update.

Like a stated, I have not tried editing these entries yet and I would not recommend it to the faint at heart, but if you know what you're doing and you have some free time it may be something to look into. I am going to try editing these for myself, but I thought I would post first to see if anybody has had any luck in the past.

***Please understand that I am in no way stating or guaranteeing that any of these registry edits will work. Please alter your registry at your own risk. Might I recommend exporting your working registry before editing. :D

Anyways I guess that's it for now. Hope to hear from some experienced forum members.

None of those settings work. At least not anymore...
I think if you do a search you will find that out...
