someone help me please

Post by Kimba »

I just bought my magicJack today, plugged it in, it downloaded the software and then a message popped up when it was trying to connect to the registration server that said...

magicJack was unable to contact our registration server.
Please check your internet connection.
If you can browse other web pages, it means our server is temporarily down. Please restart the phone again in a few minutes if it is not ready to call.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

This has been going on for hours now and it still wont work, what is going on?

Sounds like either a firewall or an antivirus interaction with your MJ. Did you disable your AV prior to intalling your MJ? In fact usually a good idea to close down all non necessary programs when you install anything.
Also it COULD be a MJ server problem....If so it should clear up in a few days.
IF NOT then there is a MJ removal tool on their web page which you can run and start from scratch.

Jut some tips off the top of my head.

Ok so I downloaded the magic jack removal tool, ran it, then I disabled my AVG and then plugged it back in, and I am still getting the message. So maybe it is on their end?

Yes it could be, unlikely, but one never knows.
Did you try to disbale your firewall too?

I use AVG as well ( Comodo for my firewall) . I closed down everything except my firewall when I first installed my MJ in Aug 2008. All went well.
All I can say is see what happens come Monday and if still no good try the onlice chat. Yes they will make you jump through hoops, most won't work either.

MAYBE try this, can't hurt...

In Windows admin account:

Click the "Start" button then "Settings" then "Control Panel" then go to "Internet Options", under "Privacy" tab, slide the bar down to "Accept all cookies". Under "Security" tab, click on "Trusted Sites" then click the "Sites" button.

Un-check the box at the bottom left of the window that says "Require Server Verification".... See More

Type the following address into the text bar, reg.talk4free.com then click the "Add" button, and also type in the following address, my.magicJack.com and click "Add" then "Close" then "OK".

Run upgrade.exe
Login to magic Jack account from window that pops up.

Test Call.

Maybe it's just because magicJack sucks!

I installed magicJack, and it worked great for about 4 months. Then one day it just quit working. Same exact problem. Cannot connect to the internet. I did everything prescribed by everyone here on this thread. Uninstalled my AVG, and uninstalled my Zone Alarm. Cookies are being accepted. Went to speedtest.org, and the connection is running between 1 and 1.5 mbps. This is well within the range of magicJack capability. Everything else works. My MSN Messenger works, and my Firefox browser connects. The only thing that does not work is magicJack!
Could it be possible that magicJack simply sucks? They have virtually no tech support from what I gather on other forums. They have no replacement after 30 days of use (or less than that if you bought yours from Walgreens like I did. Then, you have to take it to Walgreens for a replacement). This is the most customer unfriendly company I have run across in a long time.
I signed up for their 5 year plan. So now, I have nothing, and they've got my money. magicJack = $40, 5 year plan = another $50+. They've got quite the racket going for sure.

Try booting into save mode with networking, then connected MJ. It should start configuring. If it does not start let it continue configuring for about 10 minutes, then reboot to normal windows. Hope it works for you.

Try to run the MJ removal tool ( avail on their web page) reboot with the MJ plugged in and it should start updating. If it still doesnt work, I would manually install the update ( again avil on their web page)
You have, of course, removed the little extension cord which came with the MJ correct and are using a rear USB port? Have you tried it on another PC?
