I've had my Magic Jack for about 9 months and it's been working pretty well until last month (January).
On most calls, the sound starts out fine on the other end, but starts cutting out after a few minutes. The sound is fine from the Magic Jack side.
I've heard it when my wife calls me at work. It's ok at first, but the sound becomes very choppy in a short while. I've had complaints about it when calling out or receiving calls when I'm at home.
I've tried the following to no avail...
1. Rebooted the computer.
2. Reseated all connections to clean the contacts. This included the phone connections, USB and network. (This also restarted the MJ).
3. Bought a new wireless antenna for the router and moved it away from the phone (even though they are on different frequencies).
4. Bought and installed a Hawking HBB1 QoS adaptor.
5. Recycled power on all components including router and cable modem. (Powered down, waited over a minute and powered back up).
Some troubleshooting info...
My Magic Jack is connected via a powered USB adaptor.
The computer uses a hard wired network connection and is used only for the Magic Jack and one shared security camera (this computer only displays one camera and doesn't record).
The phones are 5.8 GHZ wireless and the wireless network is 2.4 GHZ 802.11g.
The Magic Jack executable is running on high priority.
We don't do p2p, torrents or any kind of file sharing. No video downloads or that sort of thing.
Everything was working fine until January. No new hardware was introduced until after the problem started.
Any ideas would be appreciated, even if they seem obvious to you. Thanks in advance.

The Jan update messed up a lot of MJ's MOST had contact list problems and that is what this downgrade is for. BUT others have tried this as well and it has helped.

An update...
It took a couple of hours to learn, implement and test it, but I got the Austin proxies blocked. Evidently, the Salt Lake City proxy is where my MJ landed this reboot.
My wife is out of town so I called and we talked for about 10 minutes. That's way longer than when the cutting out problem would have occurred. She heard some static on her end, but nothing severe.
During the call, I remembered that I didn't set the magic jack executable to high priority after the reboot. That might have contributed to the static on her end.
So it's one in a row now.

[edit] The proxy thing seems to have cured the cutting out problems. I'm wondering if the MJ will randomly grab another proxy on reboot or stay with the Salt Lake City one. Time may tell. After setting the executable back to high priority, the static issue is gone as well. [/edit]

I'm glad to hear the suggestions helped.
The blocking of the proxy can be made permanent in your computer's routing table so that MJ will always find a different proxy. Or if you don't want to make it permanent, you can always just create a .bat file containing the "route add" command(s). This is what I did for a while to make sure that it all worked. Eventually, I just created a route to nowhere in my router that blocks a few bad (overloaded) proxies.
