Poor quality voicemessages

Post by tepeco »

Ok, I've read quite a bit on this forum and I have to say, damn I love it when a good forum comes together! MagicJack is woefully short of support. Anyway, I understand the bandwidth thing, but this seems to me to be different. I have installed a MJ on my brother's computer. He lives in another State. His internet speed is 3Mbps. His MJ works beautifully both incoming and outgoing. The recorded messages are smooth and quite good.

I was impressed enough to buy one for myself and installed it on my desktop unit which operates wireless to a router in a simple 4 computer P2P network. My DL speed is about 2.8Mbps Two machines are routed using CAT5. I have been testing the device by leaving messages on my answering machine at home, only to find the messages slightly garbled, slurred and bordering on unacceptable. Messages left by calling the device are about the same. Now, I removed the MJ from the computer altogether and from home, called the number. The message was quite poor, broken up somewhat and obviously not impressive. My question is, without a MJ device attached, that voice message was not affected by bandwidth on my modem, router, computer or the MJ device. This means that recorded messages are delivered from the MJ servers. I should also mention that I set up the voice messages for all the mailbox options myself. I do a lot of audio work and have skills at recordings. The input was high quality coming from me. Why didn't this happen on my brother's setup? When I set his up, the messages were very nice. Why the difference and is this something I will have to live with?

I should also mention that talking with a person seems to have normal voice quality without breaking up or having any obvious problem.
