Outgoing voice works but I cannot hear incoming voice
When I dial out using a proven wireless phone set up with the MJ phone, I cannot hear the beeps of the buttons as I dial, cannot hear it ring the other party's phone and and when the person at the other end answers, I cannot hear them talking. There is no static, no sounds at all. Total silence. They hear me fine and very clear. I hear nothing.
This happened after 4 days (just got it) of working okay. I removed the MJ from my office machine to try it out at home. I did not have time to hook it up at home. Next day, brought it back to the office, plugged it in the same USP port, using the small extension as I had done previously and that's when the problem began. Rebooting, didn't help. Disconnecting and connecting the MJ was done with the machine off, by the way.
Ideas?

Congratulations, you are the 4,179th poster to ask about this exact problem.tepeco wrote:When I dial out using a proven wireless phone set up with the MJ phone, I cannot hear the beeps of the buttons as I dial, cannot hear it ring the other party's phone and and when the person at the other end answers, I cannot hear them talking. I have no idea how to resolve your problem but I would like to suggest you acquaint yourself with the search function conveniently provided above....

One solution................
May have to do with the security settings on your DSL/cable modem.
According to MJ docs opening up UDP ports 5060 and 5070 were all that was needed.
NOT SO.......I found that MJ uses UDP ports 62000 to 65535 in my setup and this is UNDOCUMENTED BY MJ!! MJ should inform users of all the UDP ports it is using so you can set it up properly.

crackerjack wrote:Well there, Crackerjack! 4179 posts on the exact problem.... and I did search before asking. Problem is, I couldn't find one of them. Found some similar, but none the same. Spent the better part of an hour looking. Read many posts with absolutely no relevance to my question. Searching with the right words is not as easy for some of us than others. I sure wish I was smarter... 4178 posts, huh?tepeco wrote:

An update: I moved the dongle to another computer within the same P2P network in my office, which is also a VISTA machine, but is 64bit instead of 32 like the problem machine. The dongle is working just fine, calls are two-way and without fault so far. So it would seem logical that the problem is associated with the last machine, or perhaps associated with the procedural order of the way things were hooked up and turned on. After 10 days or so, using it where it sets now, if no problems pop up, I'll move it back and pay close attention to setup details. I think this may be where problems can exist. Sometimes it is the simplest things that solve our biggest problems. I'll report when I do these things.... If anyone cares, of course.
Voice issue
I have the reverse problem and magicjack nor this forum have been much help. I hear the other person perfectly clear, they cannot hear me. If you discover a fix I would be interested. MJ sent me new MJ and now they act like I don't exist, but problem does.
New update: I took the MJ to my in-home office and set it up. The machine was an XP setup. I plugged in the MJ and it loaded and worked flawlessly. Great reception both coming and going. And the internet speed on this machine is a dreary 650 mbps.
I think the problem on the original machine might have been the firewall. I use COMODO and it is still a learning process. Perhaps it was blocking the incoming part of the transmission. Just guessing. For now, my problem is solved since the machine using it now, was the intended choice.

Try this...
Hi, I just wanted to contribute my findings on getting the mj to work. Mine were working fine for months then all of a suden the sound would cut out when the mj was in active mode. I wasted many hours with their so called on line chat support agents. They have no idea how the mj really works and just go over the same scripts again and again expecting a different outcome. I am positive it was one of their "updates" that caused this to happen - "Lucky Us" right !! I finally turned to this forum for insite and answers and found the issue is with the ports the mj uses. Using Active Ports, I found the mj uses many different ramdom ports when starting up and different ports when in active mode. When it loads up, it randomly uses 4 ports in the 1000 range and 1 port anywhere between 49,000 to 65,000. Then when a call is placed or received, it switches 2 of the low number ports to a random high number port. Each time the mj is restarted, the low number ports are changed. Each time a call is placed or received, it opens random high number ports. It never uses the same ports !! Such an application is a nightmare for Network Admins because you have to turn off your firewall to get the mj to work consistantly and turning off the firewall for the network is not the answer. So I took one of my computers, wiped it and reinstalled XP and gave it a static IP and public DNS settings. Then I went into the router and put it in a DMZ zone and bypassed the firewall for that computer only. This seems to be the only way to get the mj to work consistantly. This is a terible design flaw if you ask me, but worth the trouble for all the money it saves in the long run. This may fix a lot of issues people are having with their mj....
Hope this helps....

Again
Well ...Back to square one.
This software is TERRIBLE! Everything was working and it did a software update and now .............sometimes I can hear the other party and they cannot hear me! Sometimes neither party can hear each other!
It was working...now it ain't . I think that MJ may have some many growth pains that it cannot (nor do I think that management wants it to work) WORK!
