Takes a long time to pick up a call

Post by mel150 »

Hi- I like the quality, so don't want to mess with router settings if possible, but I find it takes 7-10 seconds for the call to pick up after I pick up the receiver of the phone. I hear a long pause, then finally I hear the sound of a person on the other end of the line. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Could be the servers we're attached to picking up more traffic with all the sales being made. I usually count to 2 (one and two...) before I start to talk. A little annoying, but for $20/year....

As soon as the magicJack detects an electrical offhook signal from your phone (and it gets an adequate CPU time slice on your computer to respond) it stops the ringing signals. If you are still hearing the ringing signals for a while after you pick up the phone on an incoming, that portion of the delay until the ringing stops you are describing is local to you and is not related the servers.

Try the following to see if you can determine the root of the problem:

1. Go to the Task Manager and right mouse click on the "magicjack" process and use the Set Priority command to increase the priority from Normal to High. If this helps, installing the Magicfeatures plugin will take care of this priority elevation for you on an ongoing basis.

2. If you are using a cordless phone, try using a corded phone for comparison.
