mJ won't use phone

Post by gpop87 »

Hello,

I've been having trouble with magicJack, that I assume stem from my father pulling out the device from USB without quitting first. Anyway, I've gotten it to work via microphone & speakers, but not through the telephone.

I.e. If i dial from the telephone, nothing appears on magic jack

or

I.e. If i dial from magicJack, the call will connect, but you hear nothing from the telephone.

Somewhere down the line the devise is not communicating with the telephone. Does anyone know how to fix this? It is switched to telephone in the menu.

Thank you

Did you try unplugging your magicjack and plugging it back in? letting it reinstall itself again or rebooting your computer make sure phone is plugged into magicjack when you try this.

Yes, I tried all the obvious ways to fix my mJ. I also spent 3 hours on LiveChat with customer service. I went through 5 people before I finally gave up on customer (dis)service.

I must have formatted mJ atleast 3 times and installed upgrade.dmg . No this did not solve the problem. Also checked the sound to make sure it was not muted, etc... This is not the problem either.

The magic Jack is not communicating with the telephone. Somewhere internally something is screwed up with the magicJack, as it is not the telephone.

Please help!

Do the following to try to find the root of the problem:

1. Unplug your magicJack.

2. Restart your computer to make sure it is in a stable state.

3. Plug your magicJack directly into a DIFFERENT usb port that you have NOT used it on before without the use of a USB hub. Let it install itself.

4. Plug a regular corded phone into the magicJack for the purposes of troubleshooting.

5. Go offhook and dial some digits on your phone keypad and see if you hear dialtone and then see the digits show up on the magicJack dialer screen it is working.

If the above tests do not work, your magicJack is very likely to have developed a hardware fault and needs to be replaced.
