can't make calls...is 5060/5070 PORTS can solve the problem?
I received my MJ last week and for five straight days I been working with the customer service but with no help. After installing the MJ and it's ready to make a call, I have a dial tone but after I dialled the number and the person I am calling picked up the phone we can't hear anything. I was told that they are getting my calls because it registered with they caller ID. When they tried to call me and my phone rings, but after Ipicked it up I cant hear anything. I was told by the customer service that everything looks good with my MJ so I was advice to call my ISP to allow MJ to get thru and open the 5060/5070 port with UDC. Could someone advice me if this is correct or what to do if its not. Appreciate the advice....GT

You would typically open those ports within your own router, if you're going through one, and not try to have you ISP do it on their end. You would need to reference your router's documentation to see how to do that. I have a Linksys WRT54GL and it was easy to open those ports. But I'll also say this doesn't always need to be done, it's just something to try to see if it makes a difference.

that is exactly what I was thinking that is why I did not call them yet and decided to asked for help..thankssatrider wrote:More BS from MJ. Told me the same. My IP will not open ports as they do not support(MJ)third party software. I enabled on my win 7 and makes no difference. MJ support will tell you it is on your end and will not accept any responsibility.

Run a VOIP test to see if your ISP (or your local router) are blocking the SIP ports. If the test fails, you know you're being blocked. But if the test passes, its not you or your ISP.
For example, from my office, the voip test fails (we've got SIP blocked). But from the same laptop it succeeds from my home connection.

Yes you setup those ports within the O/S not at the IP end. MJ support during one session told me to reinstall the O/S. Pretty drastic solutionI would say. Support will tell you just about anything and once your out of chat you can't really pick up where you left off unless you go through the same procedures with another tech. So the more problems you can solve here, or on your own is a good learning curve to understand how MJ works for you.

goodnews bad news
the good news is it works after I open a 5060/5070 UDP ports in my own router. I finally got in touch with my mom and spoke to her for over an hour...bad news is after that I can't make calls anymore...the note is signing in instead of ready to call....I guess it is the same problem with others after making over 30 mins of calls...I hope that MJ dont cut the services because of EXCESSIVE CALLS...lol...and I thought it is a free unlimitted calls....thanks guys for the advice....
Re: goodnews bad news
I would recommend the xlite plugin if your worried about MJ cutting you off. You can set this up with another provider that has unlimited incoming and use googlevoice for calls along with MJ. This may also help some of the other problems your having to see if it's your router/computer setup or an issue with MJ which is not out of the ordinary.bluefish0222 wrote:the good news is it works after I open a 5060/5070 UDP ports in my own router. Attempt to reboot your magicJack device. Tech support has informed me that you can continue calling past the limit, if one reboots the device.bluefish0222 wrote:the good news is it works after I open a 5060/5070 UDP ports in my own router.
