Phone calls dropped after 30 sec or 5 min.
I have searched this forum for hours and have come to this conclusion: I am clueless when it comes to VoIP technology and how to make it work for me. I really don't want to go back to paying $100 for local phone and dsl. Can someone please give me a step-by-step, low-risk fix for my problem? Yesterday the software started dropping calls. Phillipino livechat agent had me open ports 5060 and 5070 for the MJ. It didn't work. You guys are so techy and smart that you lose me after a couple replies to similar issues. Anyone want to shed a ray of hope? Thanks! -Di

Ok first thing. A POWERED USB hub could help. ALSO your router may need to be flashed to a newer firmware ( check the mfg site for the latest version and HOW to flash it. You can also call tech support for your router and they will walk your through it). Some Linksys routers have had that problem as told by some users on here.
There is more technical stuff ( as in searcing for Tomato, yes tomato) but lets not get into that.
A simple thing you can do right away is IF you are using the extension cord which came with the MJ, don't. It causes more problems than it is worth. Also make sure you have the MJ plugged into a USB port in the REAR of the PC, yes it can make a difference.

You are very welcome. Glad to have helped.HelpThisMama wrote:Thank you, Joe! I removed the extension cable and installed the updated firmware to my Belkin router. It looks like everything is a-ok for the time being. You ROCK! Thank you again! They SHOULD pay you.
By the way the "They Should Pay You" moniker is added by this forum after one posts over 500 messages. I think "MagicJack God" is next. Sheesh, not sure I want that
