I did an update to my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS card the other day. After the update a reboot was required. After my PC rebooted the registration/verification screen for MJ came up. No big deal. I filled out the info and all was well. Later that day I had to reboot, sure enough after the reboot the reg/ver screen came up AGAIN. This has never happened before. Being a tech of course I said to myself what was the last thing I did. Yep my sound blaster update. So I looked to see what startup files were added via the update ( using Mike Lins Startup Control panel). Well it turns out cthelper.exe was now added to start upon boot up. So using Startup Control panel I unchecked it and rebooted. The reg screen did NOT come up this time. So I checked it again and rebooted. YEP the screen came up. SO if you are seeing the reg screen on boot up all the time you may want to check and see if you have CTHELPER.EXE running on boot up. I am running XP SP3 and I see no difference in sound with that file enabled or not. You may also need to check if it is also enabled as a service and change it from auto to manual instead. Mine was set to automatic. I have my PC running lean and have MANY services disabled. Here is a great web page for making tweaks that way, http://www.blackviper.com/

Here's a link that explains cthelper.exe: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/proce ... r.exe.html
The opinions range from leave it alone to it-causes-more-problems-than-it's-worth.
I've referenced blackviper.com for many years now. Great website.

Yeah I saw that about CTHELPER.EXE and I was going to leave it alone, until I saw it was bringing up the MJ verification screen every time after a reboot. I don't know why it does, but somehow the softphone sees it running and goes into verification mode.tsmith wrote:Here's a link that explains cthelper.exe: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/proce ... r.exe.html

I remembered a few posts of people saying that screen kept coming up after the last lucky your update. So who knows maybe this tip will help them...
