incomming goes to mj voicemail and doesnt ring w/ spa2102

Post by tillithz »

Hey guys, wierd problem that has developed. After an hour or so I get magicjacks phone number going to the mj voicemail without ringing at all. It seems that the ata device is sleeping or loosing some connection, even though the phone works fine for outbound. Almost as if the magicjack server isnt seeing the ata being registered so it sends the call to voicemail. I have tried with and without settings in the user section for that line (no forward to another number after xx seconds). I can get it to work properly and be infinite ringing by forwarding it to the mj number by power cycling the ata device, but again after 1 hour or so it goes back to straight to voicemail.

anyone have a suggestion? maybe a setting in the provisioning tab? or the regional tab? thanks

What is your registration expire set to I have mine set to 180 and it works. Also look at Ring Waveform and see what it's set at. By default on my pap2t-na it is set for trapezoid. I needed to change it so sinusoid to get my phones to ring (this is the behavior my phones had until I switched both of these settings).

yeah, I read up a little on the waveform and changed it too, that corrected the problem without rebooting but this morning I had the same problem again. I have set the register expires to 180 as well as the proxy fallback intrvl to 180 (from 3600). I am back to 3600 on the proxy fallback intrvl now though. anything else you can think of?

thanks

it seems the register expires of 180 is causing the problem. I set to 90 and seems to be working. It kind of makes sense too since it seems like mj forgets its registered and goes to vm right away.

Common issue when your incoming calls goes to VM is that most ATAs are behind a router. After your ATA registers with MJ's proxy servers a port is opened for 5070 to accept inbound connections and after a certain time the port will be closed by your router.

Changing the registration expire time to a shorter reregistration interval is one method and the other is to activate NAT Keep Alive which the ATA will send a packet by default every 15 seconds to keep that port active. The NAT Keep Alive feature can be found on the Voice tab then choose the admin login and choose the advanced menu. From there choose the line that you are working with and the option will be available to choose to turn on or not.

SPA2102 is an ATA with a single port router and it is technically in the "front end" of the router so to speak can be able to work fine if the "Internet" port is connected to a cable/DSL modem and is pulling a public IP and the "LAN" port is connected to your computer running the MJMD5. This method requires a little bit of networking skills to pull it off but the rewards is the ability of being on the phone and surfing the net at the same time without too much degradation of voice quality. The ATA/Router manages the priority of the data going to your cable/DSL modem. My registration default is 3600 seconds and I have been able to receive calls without too much issues since I receive a lot of inbound calls and the facsimile machine is happy to receive them...
That's my quarter's worth, but not enough to call someone who really cares at a pay telephone booth...

SPA2102 with MagicJack standalone or MJPROXY/MJMD5

Post by vzlarwpx »

Do any of you have the following setup and if so, how did you get it to work? Any assistance is appreciated.

Here is my setup:

Internet-->SPA2102-->WRT54GSv1.1(Tomato 1.23)-->Laptop

SPA2102-WAN IP-comcast ip
SPA2102-LAN IP-192.168.0.1

WRT54G-WAN IP-192.168.0.2
WRT54G-LAN IP-192.168.1.1

Laptop-LAN DHCP IP-192.168.1.23

I was able to successfully load the mjproxy on my WRT router (I ran xlite on my laptop directing it to the router mjproxy and could make calls).

However, I can't get the SPA2102 to register, (I will need to learn how to attach screens here!)

NAT Keep Alive Dest: 192.168.1.1:5070
Proxy: 192.168.1.1:5070

Not much luck on the registration, can anyone help?

Thanks....
