Straighten me out here....thanks... trying to get my head around this without messing with the home phone system and upsetting the wife....
What if I go to my.magicjack.com and enter my GC number into the CALL FORWARDING number.... and.... one of the numbers in my GC settings is my MJ number? Its basically a loop... MJ->GC->MJ->GC to infinity...
Anyone tried this? Obviously I ask because I would like anyone who returns or makes a call to my MJ number to be forced to go to GC so I can pick up on any of my numbers, but I would also like to be able to answer the home phone as well.
My guess is that I will never hear my home phone (MJ) ring due to the explicit forwarding and only my other numbers configured in GC will be ringing if someone calls my MJ number. This effectivly makes my MJ good for outgoing calls only... right?

In landline/PSTN and cellular switches, there's a software check to prevent circular/endless call forwarding loop (like condition mentioned above). This sw check, usually called "CF loop counter", is usually set maximum at 10 to prevent call setup looping forever. I'm sure VOIP call servers would have similar software check like PSTN/cellular call servers (switches) to prevent endless CF loop.

Thats nice they have systems to protect themselves from people like me, but it sounds like the observed behavior would be like I guessed?
Which is in that configuration the MJ phone never rings, right?
With the magicjack service being completely useless right now due to the days of "upgrading" going on I am tempted to try it.... the real reason I like this idea is because people whom I call eventually tend to TRY and call my MJ number from their callerID instead of doing what they are told and use my GC number.... those people would be nicely re-directed back to GC with the forwarding option where I would also get their voicemail, etc, since I dont use MJ voicemail.
It sounds like the downside is that my MJ phones would never be incoming call devices any longer.
