Keep getting "Registration State: Failed"?

Post by CaptWho »

I had my Linksys ATA working and decided that I wanted it to have a static IP address. I changed it over and at that point, it refused to register.

I tried everything that I could think of to get it going. I reset the ATA twice, played around with the IP address, turned DHCP back on, researched the problem on the net and nothing seemed to work.

After two days of playing around with it and not being able to get it to go, I discovered this trick.

Shut down your proxy, go into the directory for your MJMD5 proxy and delete the .ini file, even if you're sure that the settings are correct.

I reconfigured MJMD5 from scratch and as simple as that was, it worked and things were running.

At that point, I decided to set the static IP of the ATA again and sure as clockwork, it refused to register.

I went back to MJMD5 and deleted the .ini file, reconfigured and like magic, the ATA was working once more.

I'm wondering how many other stubborn ATAs this might work for?

I have always run my Linksys ATA with a static IP address. Never had a problem so I guess I am missing your point.

So for you it worked, for me it didn't. You're lucky and you never had to deal with it. It was driving me nuts for days.

There are a lot of people out there that work on getting things up and running and never seem to be able to get it. The actual configuration of the ATA is pretty simple once you understand it. Finding this out helped me, thought it might help someone else that was having trouble.

Is it possible that the Static IP you were setting on your ATA was outside the DHCP IP range and/or causing a conflict and that could be what was causing the problem? Setting a Static IP on an ATA has nothing to do with your unit registering. Also, once you do set a Static IP, did you restart the MJProxy? I'm assuming you are running MJproxy on your PC? Most people I know run their MJProxy on a router.

Hmmm, well there is no reason why it shouldn't work really. You must be doing something weird. Set the static IP within your router's assigned static IP range and rerun mjmd5. If the address is valid and not conflicted with something else on your network it should work just fine.
