Hi,
I was thinking of buying a MagicJack but i'm concerned with port forwarding.
I'm reading mixed responses on this. Some people say you should do it, others say you don't have to and it works just fine. I was reading this also:

Anyway, just wondering. If I do have to do port fowarding it could be a deal breaker. I'm not very fond of doing that.
Thanks.
Do I have to do port fowarding?

2 years ago, I took mine out of the package, plugged it in and was making calls in less than 5 min. No "port forwarding " or anything else.
XP SP3 Comodo Firewall and NO antivirus running in the background. I have several AV programs but ALL non resident. I scan everything I D/L after I save it and with more than one AV.
Of course your mileage may vary, but unlike me, you can now buy it local and if it doesnt work, just bring it back.

PS READ this forum and learn from it....I did for close to a year BEFORE I bought my MJ. Invaluable........

Quick follow up...
I bought the unit yesterday from Radio Shack. Got home, plugged it in, let it update and I went through the registration process and got my number. I called a few people and it works like a charm, very clear, no echoes or noise. I'm very impressed so far...hopefully it'll stay that way.
And no I didn't have to do any port forwarding.
Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear it worked well for you out of the box.street_lethal wrote:Thanks Joe.
I think I might go pick one up at Target and try it out.
One other thing, I don't keep any of my computers on 24/7 and have no plans to do so. From what I read in that case the calls get forwarded to voice mail or I can setup call forwarding. Is this correct?
To answer your question, YES... If your PC is off all your calls will go VM. OR you can choose what # you want your calls to be forward too, of course this bypasses your VM. Just remember to take call forward off when you power your PC back on.
