Magic Jack a resource Hog?
I recently did a (ctrl alt delete) and brought up Task manager to check what's running and noticed that Magic is using a tone of system resources, to be excact it is sitting at 50,616k Mem usage. I'm running XP. It never did this before, It usually sits around 5,00k any ideas?

Only 15,712k here of mem usage with XP SP3. And I have it set for HIGH priority.hartterc wrote:I recently did a (ctrl alt delete) and brought up Task manager to check what's running and noticed that Magic is using a tone of system resources, to be excact it is sitting at 50,616k Mem usage. Just checked it again and it's down to 8,6xxk, so it varies. I don't know what the average is, but it seems 50k is extremely high. You may want to check it again and see how much it's taking up now.
Setting its priority to HIGH gives it a better chance of remaining consistently effective, above all other processes that are constantly trying to grab the CPU's limited resources. You might have known that already. I've experimented with it, and it seems to work better set to HIGH.

Hey Tom stop minimizing the situation!!!!tsmith wrote:With MJ active and say, offhook with the Echo test, my MJ process increases to around 38,000k+. Once I hang up, it decreases to around 26,000k or so. When I minimize it, it drops to around 6-7000k and hovers around that number. So you're at the 50k mark while your MJ's minimized?

hartterc,
After reading your OP, I decided to check on my own setup.
Just so you know, you're not alone.
I'm running an HP t5700 thin client w/Win XPe SP2, 512 DOM, 512 RAM.
magicjack.exe priority @ high 13.
Task Manager showed magicjack.exe memory use @ 50,500k
After a reboot, it's now @ 22,368.
I'll look back in on it later in the day and post back.
I'm not 100% sure but I think that this behavior started with the most recent

Holding @ 23,548 after using the phone for the day.

Your initial assessment of the new magicJack dialer was actually correct. It is indeed a resource hog.
I just ran some more tests with nothing beside the new magicJack dialer functioning and get similar results to Joe, Tom and others in this thread. They match all the previous tests that I ran since the time the new dialer came out.
When the dialer is minimized it sits at around 8,000Kb and when the dialer is maximized the results fluctuate between 18,000Kb and 50,000Kb. When you make a call it goes up a bit further from there.
The largest fluctation appears to be right after you restart the magicJack dialer before you minimize it for the first time. It cleans up some of the heavy duty memory usage after it is minimized once and then re-opened.
