MJ worked once on t5720

HP T5720
2009 XPe installed
512/1g
I tried running the SyGate un-installer that I downloaded from the HP site, but it would error out in a DOS prompt. The others worked fine.

It came with Symantec software that I un-installed.

I am using a Buffalo Wireless USB adapter. I had a little trouble installing it, but got it working. Im using the TC to type this, in fact.

Problem:

The first time I did this, I followed the "Dummies Guide" and my MagicJack worked. I made some test phone calls etc.

THEN the next day, my roommate lost is cellular telephone and asked to borrow my MJ phone so he could call his cell and find it by listening for the ringer (or whatever). He called his cell about a million times and brought the phone back saying "it quit working".

Sure enough, every number you dialed returned a busy signal. SO, I unplugged the MJ and plugged it back in hoping to re-set it. This time, it returned the "error 20" saying it could not connect to the internet. I "double click here" and get a message saying something about a Security Alert and "certificate is not validated" or something. I click "yes" to continue. Then, after I enter my email and password another screen flashes for just a moment showing a smiley face but I can't read that fast.

I tried the built-in fixes in the menu etc but nothing worked.

SO, I re-installed XPe and started over. This time, the MJ downloaded an upgrade saying "Lucky You!" but the error remains the same "error 20".

I have tried re-booting, un-plugging, etc.

I have been unable to make any headway getting the MJ to work, so I thougth I'd post here before going to that MJ instant chat-help thing.

It looks like Window's firewall is not installed. I am going through a wireless router, but I have no idea how to access it to change security settings.

Any suggestions?

Im gonna try connecting my cable modem directly to the ethernet port on the back and by-passing the USB wifi adapter.

Well, that didnt work. The connection was sending but not recieving packets. Plugging into the back of my router got a connection, but no change in MJ, still "error 20".

Interesting.

Do you think MagicJack support needs to "refresh" my account or something since I've re-installed my OS? Maybe something that was originally installed no longer matches up at MJ headquarters?

This is frustrating.

OK, so I got tired of XPe and I "may or may not have" downloaded TinyXP (cough 'illegal' cough).

Once I was installed, I plugged in my MJ and poof! ..... nothing.

Since I had the simplest version installed, I downloaded the "upgrade.exe" file from the MJ website. I ran that and now everything works fine.
